Carrolton, GA - The University of West Georgia baseball team won its seventh and eighth straight games on Saturday afternoon as they took two from Christian Brothers in Memphis, TN. The Wolves (25-10, 14-9 Gulf South Conference) won game one by a score of 14-0 in seven innings. West Georgia stayed hot in game two as they got the win by a score of 15-3. The Wolves had 30 hits between the two games.
Game One
It didn't take long for the Wolves to take the lead in game one as UWG score four runs in the top of the second inning. The inning began with a
Dalton Rogers single and a
Tyler Hutch hit by pitch.
Garrett Hayes then doubled, scoring Rogers and putting runners on second and third. With one out
Ben Utley singled, scoring Hutch and Hayes to make it a 3-0 game.
Caleb Lopes walked with the bases loaded for the final UWG run, making it 4-0 in the second.
West Georgia added to their lead in the third as
Tyler Hutch walked, followed by a single by
Drew Eady.
Ben Utley then drove in his third run with an RBI single. An
Artemis Kadkhodaian sacrifice fly and a
Cade Marlowe RBI single pushed two more runs across and gave UWG a 7-0 lead in the third.
The score remained the same until the sixth inning, which started with a
Caleb Lopes single and back-to-back walks from
Dalton Rogers and
Tyler Hutch.
Garrett Hayes then tripled, driving in Lopes, Rogers, and Hutch, while giving West Georgia a 10-0 lead.
Keith Buckhault drove in the last UWG run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
West Georgia added their final four runs of the contest in the seventh as
Caleb Lopes walked and
Dalton Rogers hit a triple to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Tyler Hutch then doubled, scoring both runs. A
Drew Eady single scored the final run of West Georgia's 14-0 win in seven innings.
Garrett Hayes had two hits and four RBI in the game.
Dalton Rogers was 2-3 with three runs scored.
Tyler Hutch had two RBI and four runs scored.
Brandon Goldsmith moved to 7-0 on the season pitching all seven shutout innings, giving up only five hits.
Game Two
UWG once again scored early as they picked up their first run in the first.
Cade Marlowe singled and
Caleb Lopes double to put runners on second and third with one out.
Dalton Rogers then grounded out to first base, but Marlowe scored in the process.
CBU picked up a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at one run apiece. West Georgia responded in the fifth when
Drew Eady hit a triple and scored on a single by
Keith Buckhault. With two on and two outs
Caleb Lopes singled, extending the UWG lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning.
After a walk by
Dalton Rogers,
Tyler Hutch singled to drive in Lopes and extend the lead to 5-1.
Garrett Hayes followed with an RBI single of his own to give West Georgia a 6-1 lead.
Tyler Hutch scored on an error, and then
Drew Eady hits his first homerun of the year. UWG led 9-1 headed to bottom of the fifth inning.
Christian Brothers added a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-2 game. UWG once again responded as
Payton Mann doubled and scored on a single by
Cade Marlowe. After a
Caleb Lopes double,
Dalton Rogers crushed his third homerun of the year to extend the lead to 13-2.
The final runs came in the seventh inning as
Artemis Kadkhodaian hit a two-run homerun. CBU added a seventh inning run to make the final score 15-3.
Matthew Norton got the win pitching six innings while giving up two runs.
Dalton Rogers had four RBI and two runs scored.
Drew Eady was 2-3 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored.
