TAMPA, FL - Playing the top-seed, tournament host, and defending Division II National Champion didn't faze the West Georgia Wolves baseball squad on Saturday as they knocked the Tampa Spartans out of the NCAA South Regional with a 4-3 win at the UT Baseball Field in Tampa, Fla.

The Wolves used 11 hits to down the Spartans, and used the arms of Brandon Goldsmith, Josh Morgan, and Mitchell Mannino to win a close, one-run game on Saturday.

Caleb Lopes got the Wolves on the board in the first as he hit a single that scored Payton Mann after a UT error that also allowed Lopes to advance all the way to third. The next batter, Dalton Rogers, then drove in Lopes, giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead after one inning.

It was Lopes again in the third who added to West Georgia's lead as his sac fly scored Drew Eady.

Tampa cut into the lead in the fourth as Laz Rivera led off the frame with a solo shot to left field, making it a two-run game. Goldsmith, however, settled down and retired the next three batters in order.

Ben Utley gave the Wolves that run back as he hit a solo shot of his own to left field, good for his second home run of the season.

After two reached on a walk to start the sixth, Josh Morgan came on in relief and got two pop ups before allowing a run on a funky play at the plate. Morgan got the next man to pop out to retire the side.

In the top of the seventh, the Spartans left the bases loaded and then loaded them again in the eighth. Tampa did score a run in the eighth as Mitchell Mannino got a fly out with the bases loaded and only one out. After another walk to load the bases, Mannino got another fly ball to get out of the bases loaded jam.

Mannino came back in the ninth and was lights out as he struck out the leadoff man, got the next guy to ground out and ended it with a strike out.

Goldsmith earned the win and moved to 10-1 while Mannino earned his fifth save of the year. Offensively, Ben Utley led with three hits including the home run. Dalton Rogers also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lopes picked up the other RBI.

The win moves the Wolves to 41-15 on the year and keeps them alive in the South Regional. They will face the winner of today's Lynn vs. West Florida game tomorrow at noon.
