TAMPA, FL - An exciting run in the NCAA Division II South Regional came to an end on Sunday evening as the Wolves baseball team fell 13-5 to the Delta State Statesmen in the final game of the loser's bracket.
The Statesmen wasted no time getting started as on the second pitch of the game Brandon Cummins hit a solo shot to right field to give DSU the early lead. Delta State added a second run in the next inning on a double down the line.
After a scoreless third by both teams, the Statesmen put up a three spot in the fourth inning, beginning with another solo shot, this one by Ethan Gill. DSU would get two more runs in the frame on two hits and one error.
The Wolves, however, would answer back with a four run fifth inning that began with three straight singles. DSU would then get a pop out and strikeout before the Wolves began to chip away at the lead with two outs.
Dalton Rogers drove in a pair with a single and was followed by an RBI single by
Garrett Hayes. Freshman
Cade Marlowe drove in the fourth run of the inning on another single.
Delta State would add two runs in the sixth, a run in the seventh, and two more in the eighth, as would the Wolves. DSU would put up a three spot in their final at bat.

The Wolves finish the season 42-16 and go 3-2 in their first NCAA South Regional Appearance in 18 years.
