PENSACOLA, FL - It was a long, back-and-forth affair on Sunday evening in Pensacola, but the Wolves baseball team fell 8-7 in the second round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament to the Delta State Statesmen.
How It Happened
Delta State jumped out to an early lead on UWG starter
Brandon Goldsmith, scoring four runs in the opening inning. The big blow of the inning was a three-run homer by Ethan Gill.
After DSU added a run in the third, the Wolves struck with a four spot in the third.
Artemis Kadkhodaian led the inning off with his 10
th home run of the season. The next two batters reached base, and the Wolves eventually loaded the bases, setting the stage for
Garrett Hayes to drive in two with a single.
Drew Eady drove in the fourth run of the inning for the Wolves on a fielder's choice.
The Statesmen scored another run in the fifth, stretching their lead to two, but
Payton Mann would tie things up in the bottom half with a two-run home run to right field.
West Georgia took the lead in the sixth as
Dalton Rogers drew a leadoff walk, and came around to score on a
Keith Buckhault single.
In the next half inning, DSU scored two runs to regain the lead, and would never give it back, as the Statesmen moved to the winner's bracket.

The Wolves will have to bounce back tomorrow at 12:00 Eastern time as they take on host and top-seeded West Florida in an elimination game
