Taylor's Walk-Off Secures Series sweep

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Logan Taylor did it again. For the second time this season, the senior secured a victory in the final game of a three-game series with a walk-off hit. Sunday, it came against Alabama Huntsville to give the Wolves a 7-6 victory and the first Gulf South Conference series sweep of the year.

Alabama Huntsville came out strong in the first inning, scoring a pair of runs before UWG starter Cory Bartholomew was able to get an out. The junior hurler then got out of the jam with an inning-ending double play to bring the Wolves to the plate for the first time. Brady Barnes started the day in solid fashion with a double to left, then came home on a single from Cade Marlowe for the first run of the day for West Georgia. Marlowe then stole third and came home on a ground out from Dan Oberst to tie the game at 2-2.

In the second inning, Bartholomew settled down and retired the Chargers in order. The Wolves then came to bat, with Joseph Hill and Lane Griffith getting on base in the first two at-bats of the frame. Two batters later, Barnes doubled home the first run of the inning and his second of the day, followed by Brian Dansereau making it back-to-back doubles and scoring two more to give the Wolves a 5-2 advantage. Logan Taylor closed out the scoring for the inning two batters later with a single up the middle to score Dansereau and give West Georgia a 6-2 lead.

That was the last that the Wolves would cross the plate, as UAH reliever Harper Case allowed just one hit from the third inning until the eighth. That allowed the Chargers to tie the game, as UAH scored two runs in the fourth, another in the fifth, then tying the game with a single run in the top of the seventh.

After Ryan Parker worked a scoreless ninth, the Wolves loaded the bases for Taylor and the senior belted a single up the middle, scoring Barnes with the game-winner.

West Georgia moves to 10-15 on the year and 7-7 in Gulf South Conference play with the victory.

Notable: Cade Marlowe stole two bases on Sunday, bringing him to 18 stolen bases on the season, which leads the Gulf South Conference by a comfortable margin ...
