Men's Basketball Preview: Wolves at Valdosta State

CARROLLTON, Ga. - After a three-game homestand, the Wolves will travel to south Georgia on Saturday to take on the Valdosta State Blazers in the final game before exam week. The Wolves and Blazers will tip at 8:00 p.m., a chance from the original time of 4:00 p.m.
•    West Georgia comes into Saturday's matchup with a 2-4 record on the year following a tight 69-65 loss to West Florida in the GSC opener on Wednesday. VSU comes into the weekend with no conference games on the docket yet and the Blazers picked up a lopsided 118-78 victory over Coastal Georgia last Monday to move to 4-2 on the year.
•    UWG head coach Dave Moore is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in the 2021-22 athletic year. He has 42 victories in his first three years at UWG and has coached three All-Conference players, a Gulf South Conference Player of the Year and he guided Michael Zabetakis to win the GSC Commissioner's Trophy this past summer. Moore has a 42-43 record at West Georgia, his first stop as a head coach.
•    For the sixth consecutive game to start the season, Seth Brown-Carter scored in double-figures against West Florida on Wednesday. In this one, he was 5-of-12 from the field, scoring 15 points to lead the UWG offensive. He was 3-of-9 from three-point range in the game, marking the third time this season that he has hit at least three from long range.
•    West Georgia is averaging 72.7 points per game on the year, good for ninth in the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves are giving up 73.8 points per game, also ninth in the league. Valdosta State comes into the weekend leading the league in scoring with an average of 90.2 points per game and the Blazers are last in the league in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score an average of 82.8 points per game this season.
•    Brown-Carter has the top single-game performance of the young season, hitting for 30 points in the first win of the year against Palm Beach Atlantic. The win was a return party for Brown-Carter, as he also had a double-double in the game, pulling down 10 rebounds. He has scored in double-figures in each contest this season and leads the team with a 16.2 points per game average.
•    Junior guard Cam Hamilton leads the way for Valdosta State this season, averaging 16.2 points per game on the year, which is tied with Seth Brown-Carter for sixth in the GSC on the season. MIchael Cole, a 6-7 big man, is second on the team with 15.5 points per game.
•    Cole will be a tough matchup for the Wolves in this one, and the job that Jalen Sasser and Tommaso Gini can do against Cole will determine how successful the Wolves will be. Gini had a pair of outstanding games against Valdosta State in the spring, averaging double-figures in The Complex on back-to-back days.
•    The Wolves and the Blazers have two common opponents thus far, with both teams coming away victorious in a battle with Palm Beach Atlantic. UWG won 83-63 in the second game of the year and Valdosta State beat the Sailfish 72-71. The Wolves lost to Clayton State last Tuesday and Valdosta State beat CSU 92-79 earlier this summer.
