CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Oberst train doesn't seem to be slowing down yet.
Dan Oberst, the senior first baseman and outfielder for the West Georgia Wolves in 2021, added to his growing list of accolades this week as he was named South Region Player of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Oberst and sophomore
Brody Wortham were both named as part of a Gulf South Conference-laden All-South Region First Team.
A native of Largo, Florida, Oberst was at the top of the offensive output numbers throughout the 2021 season on the team, in the Gulf South Conference, and nationally. He hit .409 on the year with a Gulf South Conference leading 33 extra-base hits. That included a tie for second in the conference in home runs with 17, 11 doubles, and a league-leading five triples. He scored 45 runs on the year, had a whopping .848 slugging percentage and he was fourth in the conference in stolen bases with 16.
Oberst finished the regular season in a tie for sixth nationally in home runs and also ranked in the top-10 in total bases (4
th), hits (T8), triples (T8), RBI (T9) and slugging percentage (10

He played both of the middle infield spots, working to turn 13 double plays over the course of the season as well. He was named Second Team All-GSC and then follows up with a First Team All-Region nod as a utility player.
Oberst was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Confernce when the All-GSC awards were handed out prior to the Gulf South Conference Tournament earlier this month.
Wortham and Oberst became the first teammates at UWG to hit over .400 for the first time since the 2016 season when Caleb Lopes hit .427 and Cade Marlowe finished te year with a .412 batting average. In total, 26 different UWG players have now hit above .400 in a single season at West Georgia dating back to Pat Cain, who hit .444 in the 1959 season for West Georgia.
