CARROLLTON, Ga. - The 2024-2025 Indoor Track and Field Season is finally set to begin on Saturday when the Wolves travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the Commonwealth Opener in UWG's first event as a Division I program.
Head Coach Ryan Bailey is excited to see his team compete in the first Indoor Meet of the season.Â
"As Head Coach, I am anxious to finally get to see them in competition", says Bailey, "Both our teams are excited to travel to Louisville this weekend. The Norton Center facility will be the site of the ASUN Indoor championships, so I wanted our athletes to get a chance to run on their track surface, use their runways and pits at least once before the championship meet."
On the women's side, The Wolves are bringing back returning sprinters in Shamiya Perry, Campbell Brown, Dasani Minter, Linda Vasquez, and Valenya Renteria-Silva to name a few.Â
On the throwing side, Dru Green looks to have another good season after being named All-Region last season. Along with Green is Kyla Ford, Daja Freeman, Jaycee Woods, and Madeline Campbell.Â
For jumps, a few athletes to look forward to this season include, Chiomah Uwaomah, Haley Trammell, Elizabeth Osborne, Taylor Hampton, Amaya Hammel, and Olivia Fulford.
West Georgia brings in a good freshman class in Day Atkins, Tykendra Daniel, Jordan Kelly, Mallory Peavey, and Brooklyn Crabtree.They will all make their UWG debuts this week in Kentucky.
On the men's side, the Wolves are returning a lot of key pieces back and also bringing in new additions. Some of the key returners coming back for the Wolves includes sprinter Trevor Fair, Jumper Corey Rooks, Jumper William Shawley, Jumper Richard Griffin, and Griffin Stephens.
Along with those returners, West Georgia is bringing in a host of newcomers with freshman additions as well as transfers. Some of the new additions for the Wolves include Godsfavor Adenuga, Kellen Andrews, Jamari Benton, Barlow Gavin Davis, and Sanjuan Warner.
The Wolves will be joined by ASUN foes Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, and Lipscomb make up a field of 13 teams.
The meet will take place at the Norton Center Facility at 10:00 A.M. on December 7th.Â
