BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UWG men's track and field team has concluded their first ever Gulf South Conference Championship meet.
It was a productive day for the Wolves as there were a plethora of new personal records set.
Men's One Mile
There were four West Georgia representatives that competed in the mile run. Felipe Barrios was the first of the four to cross the finish line as he placed 11th with a time of 4:20.02, which would end up being his personal best. Tim Feezor was next for the Wolves as he finished with a time of 4:40.81, while Anthony Garcia recorded a time of 4:41.55. Gabriel Wyre finished with a time of 4:43.20.
Men's 800m
Joshua Sleight, Anthony Garcia, Tim Freezor represented UWG in the 800m race. Sleight finished with a time of 1:58.99 which is his personal best. Garcia also set a new personal record, by finishing with a time of 2:02.10. Feezor was the last of the Wolves to reach the finish line with a time of 2:03.14.
Men's 3000m
Griffin Stephens was the first of the five Wolves to cross the finish line as he finished with a time of 8:41.96, setting a lifetime best. Mehari Van Der Riet finished with a time of 8:58.53 while Bruno Valdez finished right after with a time of 8:58.72. Barrios and Connor Capolupo crossed the line soon after, with times of 9:00.57 and 10:09.98, respectively.
Men's High Jump
William Shawley was the lone competitor in the high jump and tied for seventh with a 1.80m jump.
Men's Triple Jump
After the high jump, Shawley recorded a 12.65m jump in the triple jump event. Richard Griffin also competed, leaping 11.84m.
Heptathlon
Matthew Brunner was the men's heptathlon athlete for day two in the GSC Indoor Championship. He had a record breaking day as he placed first in the 1000m relay with a time of 2:41.27 which is a new GSC Indoor record. He also took place in the pole vault finishing with a 2.75m jump.
West Georgia will be back in action in Pittsburgh, KS for the DII Nationals March 8-9.
