MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The UWG men's track and field team wrapped up their first season back on campus on Saturday, competing in the final day of the GSC Outdoor Championship at the University of Montevallo.
UWG placed seventh in the team standings, scoring 29.33 points. It was the first conference championship meet for a UWG men's track and field team since the sport officially returned this past December for the first time since 1985.
JUMPS & THROWS
In the Men's Triple Jump, William Shawley placed ninth with a 13.51m jump. Richard Griffin had a 12.40m jump.
Joshua Still was the lone UWG representative in the Men's Shot Put. He finished with a season best 9.11m throw.
Still was also in the Men's Javelin Throw where he finished with a 42.23m throw. Hans Urizar had a 32.32m throw, while Clay Chillcutt finished with a 29.91m throw.
DISTANCE
In the Men's 800m, Joshua Sleight finished with a time of 1:57.52. Anthony Garcia was next for UWG with a time of 1:59.90. Van der Riet had a time of 2:00.78, while Tim Feezor had a time of 2:01.31.
In the Men's 4x100, UWG placed sixth with a time of 44.14. The contestants in the relay were Trevor Fair, Jeremiah Giddens, Matthew Brunner, and Corey Rooks.
There were three Wolves that competed in the Men's 1500m, Gabriel Wyre was the first of the three to cross the finish line as he finished with a time of 4:06.40. Mehari Van der Riet was next with a time of 4:12.60, while Eduardo Ortiz had a time of 4:24.20.
West Georgia will be back next Saturday at the Lee Last Chance Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee.
