ACWORTH, Ga. - It was a tale of two rounds on Monday for the UWG men's golf team at The Scrappy.
UWG struggled in the first round at Cobblestone Golf Club, opening up with a 19-over 303, but to their credit, the Wolves bounced back nicely with a 13-stroke improvement and a 290 in the second round.
Luke Sienkiewicz led the Wolves on the day, beginning with a one-over 72 on the par 71 layout. The Germantown, Tennessee native finished with four birdies in round one and added three more in the second and finished with a 73 in the afternoon. Sienkiewicz is in 10th-place individually after 36 holes of play.
The Wolves' low round of the afternoon came from Thomas Romani who rolled in four birdies in an even-par 71. It was a six-stroke improvement for the sophomore after his first round 77, and Romani is in a 24th-place tie.
Max Winnersjo also saw a six-shot improvement from round one to round two. The Swede shot 79 in the first round before finishing with a 73 that featured a pair of birdies. One stroke behind Winnersjo was Luke Able who shot 75 and 78 on Monday. Winnersjo is in a 41st-place tie while Able is tied for 47th.
Rounding out the lineup was Will Sutton who opened play with an 82 before posting a 73 in the second round to count in the team score. Sutton is tied for 56th-place individually.
Playing as an individual, Tyler Nesci made five birdies between the two rounds and shot back-to-back rounds of 74 and is tied with Romani in 24th place.
West Georgia is in seventh as a team in a field of 11, but the Wolves are just five shots outside of the top-five with 18 holes to play. Kennesaw State, who is hosting the event, led the way on day one, shooting a 285 followed up by a 287. The Owls lead by 10 strokes.
The final round from Cobblestone Golf Club in Acworth is set for tomorrow.
