Away ASUN Action Continues at Lipscomb

10/23/2025 9:50:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Following a weekday (Oct. 22) road loss to Queens University, the West Georgia volleyball team looks to secure its first conference win taking on Lipscomb University this Sunday (Oct. 26) at 2 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee. Video streaming and stat links are tagged at the top of the page.

Going into the weekend, the Bisons lead the all-time series against the Wolves, 1-0, after securing a 3-0 win last season (Nov. 16, 2024) in The Coliseum.

With only seven matches remaining, the Wolves (2-20, 0-9 ASUN) continue to be led on offense by freshman outside hitter Valiree Schmus with 218.5 points and 189 kills. One thing that stands out in Schmus' style of play is her ability to rocket kills past her opponents. Arguably, she has one of the strongest swings on the team. Moving to defense, middle blocker Sanai Young has continued to solidify herself as one of the best blockers to come through West Georgia in recent history. Leading the team in blocks this season with 55, Young's career total now sits at 349, which is one block shy of breaking into the top-five for career blocks at UWG. The last time a Wolf reached this figure was Amber Barnlund, who played from 2005-08. As a team, the Wolves post a .128 attack percentage and .890 reception percentage.

Looking at Lipscomb (8-10, 4-4 ASUN), the Bisons and the ASUN are led by outside hitter Courtney Jones with 274 points and 252 kills. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has watched the senior play over the past four seasons as she has collected the following career accolades: All-ASUN First Team (2024), ASUN All-Tournament Team (2024), All-ASUN Third Team (2023) and ASUN All-Freshman Team (2022). Through her 18 matches played this season, Jones has scored ten or more points 16 times, highlighted by a season-high 31 point performance fueled by a career-high 30 kills in the Bisons' latest match (Oct. 19). As a team, Lipscomb ranks top-three in the ASUN in kills per set (13.62), assists per set (12.88) and service aces per set (1.72). The Bisons account for a .237 attack percentage and a .914 reception percentage.
