Ready for Action at the Commonwealth Opener

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The 2025-26 indoor track and field season is officially set to begin on Saturday as the Wolves head to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Commonwealth Opener. The meet marks UWG's second year competing at the Division I level.

UWG's sprint group will see several athletes competing in multiple events. Campbell Brown returns to run in both the 60m and 200m with entry marks of 7.62 and 24.72. Tykendra Daniels will run the 300m and 400m while also being the anchor leg on the 4x400m relay. Elise Duncanson is set for a full workload as well, competing in the 200m, 400m, and running as the third leg on the 4x400m. Jalia Long opens the season running the 60m, 200m, and 300m while also running as the sixth leg of the 4x400m relay. 

Empress Malone will race in the 200m, 60m hurdles, in addition to running as the fifth leg of the 4x400m. Kierra McKenna will compete in the 300m, 60m hurdles, long jump, and Leg eight of 4x400m relay. Genesis Price will return to action, racing in the 60m, 200m, and long jump, while Valeyna Renteria-Silva opens her season in the 300m with an entry mark of 45.17. Chloe Leblanc rounds out the sprint rotation, competing in the 200m and 600m and running the second leg of the 4x400m relay.

In the field events, the Wolves will feature a talented group of jumpers and vaulters. Carleigh Bynum will compete as a pole vaulter with an entry mark of 3.75m, while Mallory Peavey joins her in the event with a 3.18m entry mark. Amaya Hammel will compete in the same event, and post an entry at 1.46m. Bella Jones rounds out the high jumpers, while running the seventh leg on the 4x400m and competing in the 200m. Jordan Kelly will solely represent UWG in the triple jump with an entry of 11.16m. 

For the throwers, who were one of the strongest groups for UWG last season. Day Atkins enters the shot put with a mark of 13.55m, and weight throw with a mark of 16.21m, while Kyla Ford joins her with an 11.74m entry in shot put and also competes in weight throw with an entry of 15.18m. Dru Green will compete in both the shot put, with an entry of 12.73m, and the weight throw hosting an opening mark of 16.42m. Ariana Hale rounds out the throwing unit, competing in the shot put at 9.47m and also entering the weight throw. 

On the distance side, Haley Hartman will take on multiple events, competing in the 800m, one mile, and 3000m. Hartman will solely represent UWG women's track and field in distance events in the opening meet. 

The Wolves will be led by Head Coach Ryan Bailey, along with sprints, jumps, and hurdles coach Shanicka Dyson-Woodman, pole vault coach Shannon Riley, throws coach Robert Brown, and graduate assistants Phelani Maduwa and Olivia Fulford.
