LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UWG men's track and field team secured 38 points on day two of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, finishing in fifth place with a two-day total of 59 points.
HEPTATHLON
The day began with the final three events in the heptathlon with Rhett Howard finishing as the top UWG athlete with 4,108 points and an eighth-place finish. Howard's points total was a UWG record in that event. Corey Rooks took ninth with 3,829 points and Richard Griffin finished 10th with 2,280 points.
SPRINTS & RELAYS
Gavin Barlow once again broke his own record in the 60m finals, securing a second-place finish with a time of 6.82 seconds. He shaved off 0.03 seconds of his prelim time to notch the third podium finish for UWG at their first ever ASUN Championships.
Michael Willis finished eighth in the 60m finals as the duo combined for nine points in the event.
In the 400m, Matthew Strickland nabbed five points with a fourth-place finish and a school record time of 48.25. Later in the 200m finals, UWG had two competing as Willis finished sixth with a time of 22.02 and Kasahn Rivers took seventh with a time of 22.03, combining for five more points to the cause.
The final event of the day was the 4x400mR, with UWG taking third-place in that event to add six points.
JUMPS
The high jump yielded five points for the Wolves as Isaiah McMichael finished sixth, clearing 1.87m to tie his own school record and William Shawley finished seventh with a height of 1.72m.
Shawley nabbed a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, while Marcus Thompson finished fifth. Thompson's best jump measured 13.62 while Shawley hit 13.50m
THROWS
The shot put was the only throw event on Friday, with Kelechi Ihekwereme leading the UWG contingency with a 13th-place finish, hitting a school record 13.29m with his best throw. Nicholas Lane was 14th with a toss of 12.74m.
