BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UWG Men's track team competed today against 34 other schools at the indoor track and field UAB Vulcan Invite, hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Alabama.
The highlight of the event was the five school records that were broken by numerous Wolves of the men's team.
These records included three field events,
Nicholas Lane in shot put, throwing 12.72m,
Gavin Barlow in long jump, jumping 7.13m, and
Connor McLain in pole vault, vaulting 4.55m.
Gavin Barlow's jump put him in the number one spot in the ASUN performance list and got him a second place finish in the meet. The other two records broken on the track were
Matthew Strickland running a 48.48 in the 400m, and Abenezer Woellore running a 1:57.1 in his 800m debut. Woellore beat the old record by .1 seconds. It is worth mentioning that all five record breakers were underclassmen.
Kelechi Ihekwereme finished slightly behind
Nicholas Lane in shot put, throwing a 12.34. Ryane Martin finished in the long jump with a 6.57m jump, getting 12th place overall.
Jackson Thiewes was 7th in pole-vaulting with a record of 4.40m.
Marcus Thompson and
Godsfavor Adenuga finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the triple jump. Thompson jumped 13.80m and Adenuga jumped 13.45m.
A trio of Wolves finished 8th, 9th, and 10th in the 1 mile.
Bruno Valdez ran a 4:28.51,
Felipe Barrios ran a 4:29.00, and
Aiden Thaxton ran a 4:34.06.
Griffin Stephens ran an 8:37.42, getting 9th place in the 3000m for the Wolves.
UWG placed 16th in 4x400m with a time of 3:39.99. With
Solomon Johnson, Chase Stephens,
Gabriel Wrye and
Evan Beasley representing the Wolves.
