Campbell Brown Breaks 60m School Record at Vulcan Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UWG women's track and field team traveled to Alabama to compete in the Vulcan Invitational hosted by UAB.

Today's competition was highlighted by Campbell Brown breaking the UWG 60m school record with a lightning fast time of 7.62.


Back in the Birmingham Crossplex for the second time this season, the Wolves competed in a variety of events. 

Sprints
As mentioned, junior Campbell Brown kick-started the day for the Wolves setting a new 60m school record, running a blazing time of 7.62 in today's prelim. In the finals, Brown finished seventh overall with a time of 7.70

Seniors Shamiya Perry and Dasani Minter also competed in the 60m, but did not qualify for finals. Perry recorded a personal-best 8.26 and Minter finished with a time of 8.29.

Following her record-setting run, Brown raced in the 200m alongside fellow Wolves' Perry and junior Elizabeth Osborne. Brown placed 29th with a time of 25.56, Perry placed 51st with a personal-best 26.87 and Osborne ranked 64th with a time of 28.73 

Representing UWG in the 400m today was senior Jaeva Ridley and junior Elizabeth Osborne. Ridley was the first to cross the line with a time of 1:02.11, placing her 39th overall. Osborne finished in 51st with a personal-best 1:04.38. 

Hurdles
Three Wolves raced in the 60m hurdles, but none placed in the top-eight to advance to the finals. Despite not advancing, UWG still put together solid showings. Senior Olivia Fulford led the way with a personal-record of 9.41, placing her in 17th. Senior Alexis Doll trailed slightly behind with a time of 9.44 to finish in 19th position. Sophomore Valeyna Renteria-Silva closed the Wolves out with a time of 9.72 to place her in 24th.

Distance

Sophomores Chloe Leblanc and Jordan Jarnot raced for West Georgia in the 800m. Leblanc placed 28th overall with a time of 2:28.68 and Jarnot followed with a personal-best 2:37.94 to finish in 41st respectfully.

Senior Stephanie Beltran was the lone competitor to represent the blue and red in the one miller. Beltran crossed the line in 33rd place at 5:56.75 mark.
 

The biggest group of Wolves to compete in a single event today was in the 3000m. Junior Kathrin Maurer led the way in 14th place with a personal-best time of 10:30.71. Following Maurer, sophomore Kristal McQueen came in 15th with a time of 10:33.57. Sophomore Laney Pierce finished with a PR of 11:32.96 in 28th and junior Madeline Gaskin finished 33rd with a time of 12:18.86.

The Wolves placed 11th in 4x400mR with a time of 4:04.99. The unit was made up of Doll, Leblanc, Senior Olivia Fulford and freshman Tykendra Daniels

Jumps
Representing the Wolves in pole vault were sophomores Carleigh Bynum and Emily Jones. Bynun led UWG with a jump of 3.51m to earn 10th place, while Jones posted a mark of 3.21m to finish in 14th.

Seniors Taylor Hampton and Dasani Minter competed in the long jump for the Wolves. Hampton finished eighth overall with a jump of 5.36m and Minter placed 26th with a leap of 4.97m

Senior Haley Trammell and freshman Jordan Kelly took on the triple jump today. Trammell leaped a distance of 10.73m to finish in 16th and Kelly jumped 10.48m to place 19th.

Fulford represented UWG in the high jump, placing 11th with a leap of 1.53m.

Throws 
Freshman Day Atkins and sophomore Dru Green were the lone Wolves to compete in today's shot put. In a field of 44 competitors, Atkins led the way for UWG with a throw of 12.10m, placing her in 12th. Green finished slightly behind with a strong toss of 11.80m to end in 14th. 

Placing eighth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 15.18m was sophomore Kyla Ford. Following Ford, sophomore Jaycee Woods placed 23rd with a throw of 12.99m.

The Wolves return to the Birmingham Crossplex tomorrow to compete in the Green and Gold Invitational hosted by UAB.
