JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The UWG men's and women's track & field teams completed their final day of competition at the ASUN Outdoor Championships, combining for 186 points and 13 total medals, including five gold medals, while tying for second among all teams in total medals earned.
Sprints & Hurdles
In the 400m,
Matt Strickland was the lone Wolf to qualify for the final and finished with a time of 48.65.
The women's 400m saw Elise Duncanson earn a silver medal while breaking her own UWG record for the second consecutive day, crossing the line at 53.72. Ty Daniel followed closely behind at 53.80 to secure bronze.
The success continued in the 100m as Michael Willis shattered his own school record for the second straight day, blazing to a first-place finish in 10.29, just .01 seconds shy of the ASUN Championship record. Gavin Barlow followed with a runner-up finish at 10.48.
Kellie Walker competed in the women's 100m final and recorded a time of 11.77.
In the hurdles, Zachary Wiggins finished the 400m hurdles in 1:00.84. Chloe Leblanc added another gold medal for the Wolves, breaking her own school record that was set during Thursday's preliminary round with a winning time of 58.86 in the 400m hurdle finals.
Walker and Duncanson also competed in the 200m finals, with Walker finishing in 24.20 and Duncanson clocking 24.35.
Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
UWG earned another medal in the discus as
Day Atkins secured bronze with a throw of 45.49m.
Dru Green narrowly missed the podium with a strong mark of 45.10m.
The Wolves continued their dominance in the pole vault as Kareem Nazim claimed gold with a clearance of 4.88m. Connor McLain added a bronze medal after clearing 4.67m, while Grayson Greene recorded a personal best at the same height to finish just outside the top three. Shea Thiewes rounded out the group with a mark of 4.37m.
In the triple jump, Godsfavor Adenuga added another medal to the Wolves' collection with a leap of 14.66m. Marcus Thompson Jr. followed closely behind at 14.55m. On the women's side, Jordan Kelly led UWG with a personal best jump of 11.51m while Alyvia Matthews followed at 10.54m.
Relays
The men's 4x100m relay team of
Michael Willis,
Jackson Connors,
Vaughn Dickenson Jr., and
Trey Campbell earned silver with a time of 40.54.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Lia Long, Kellie Walker, Kierra McKenna, and Genesis Price finished sixth at 47.46.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Abenezer Woellore, Trey Campbell, Matt Strickland, and Jackson Connors secured bronze with a time of 3:13.85. The women's 4x400m relay team earned the final medal of the meet for UWG with a third-place finish. Elise Duncanson, Kellie Walker, Ty Daniel, and Chloe Leblanc crossed the line at 3:41.96, shattering the previous school record by more than 10 seconds.
Distance
Reatta Danhof represented UWG in the women's 1500m and led the Wolves with a time of 4:42.95.
In the men's 5000m, Alex Njoroge paced UWG with a time of 15:29.85 while Noah Anderson followed at 15:39.96.
The ASUN Championships conclude another historic season for the Wolves as the UWG women's team finished fifth overall with 71 total points, improving two spots from last season, while the men's team secured fourth place with 115 points, nearly 26 more than their total from a year ago. After earning just one gold medal and three silver medals at last season's championship meet, the Wolves closed this year's championships with five gold medals and four silver medals, highlighting the continued growth of the program.
