Men's Track Posts Two Individual Wins at Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The UWG men's track and field team opened the outdoor season on Friday at the Falcon Classic in Montevallo, Alabama with 10 podium finishes and two indidvidual wins. 

Jonathan Meadows and Gavin Barlow provided the individual wins with Meadows beating the field in the 400m hurdles while Barlow's long jump of 7.37m won that event. 

West Georgia's men had five second place finishes with Godsfavor Adenuga finishing second behind Barlow in the long jump. Matthew Strickland took second in the 400m, Abenezer Woellore placved second in the 800m, Isaiah McMichael took second in the high jump and the 4x100m relay team took second as well. 

Distance 
Abenezer Woellore ran a modern era record in the 800m, turning in a time of 1:55.86 to finish second, with teammates Evan Beasley taking fifth and Solomon Johnson taking seventh. 

UWG placed four Wolves in the top-ten of the 1500m. Leading the way with a third-place finish with a time of 4:09.69 was Griffin Stephens. Behind Stephens, Woellore crossed the line in fourth with a time of 4:10.81, Solomon Johnson placed seventh with a time of 4:15.89 and Evan Beasley crossed in eighth at the 4:17.29 mark.  

Noah Anderson's 12th-place finish in the 5000m led the Wolves, as he crossed the time line in 15:39.16. Aiden Thaxton took 16th in the 5000m with a time of 15:52.35. 

Sprints and Hurdles 
Jonathan Meadows was impressive in the 400m hurdles, winning the event with a time of 54.26 while Landon Chovanic placed 8th. Chovanic also ran to a fifth place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.68. 

In the 100m dash, Jaylen Patterson had the best time of any UWG sprinter, taking 18th with a time of 11.10. 

The 200m dash saw Kasahn Rivers place fifth with a time of 21.89 while Michael Willis placed 15th. 

In the 400m, Matthew Strickland ran to a second-place finish and a modern era record time of 48.36  

Relays 
It was a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay as Jonathan Meadows, Vaugh Dickenson, Michael Willis, and Gavin Barlow ran a 41.44. The second team of Trevor Fair, Donavin Butts, Jaylen Patterson, and Corey Rooks finished sixth with a time of 42.77. 

In the 4x400m, Woellore, Johnson, Stephens, and Beasley posted a third place finish with a time of 3:28.65. 

Throws 
Nicholas Lane's top hammer throw of 50.35m was good for third place at the meet and established a program record. Darius McNeal took 10th in the hammer with a top throw of 41.67m. 

Kelechi Ihekwereme led the Wolves in the discus, tossing the implement 44.93m in his best attempt to finish fourth. Lane had a seventh-place finish by throwing 42.11m.  

Ihekwereme and Lane did the same in the shotput by taking the top two spots among UWG throwers with Ihekwereme's 13.41m throw ranking fourth-best in the field while Lane took 13th in that event. 

Jumps and Pole Vault 
Barlow picked up where he left off after indoor season, impressing in the long jump by winning with a top jump of 7.37m which was a modern-era record and a Montevallo Classic record. Adenuga took second in the event with a jump of 7.31m. Third among the UWG jumpers was Marcus Thompson who hit 6.34 in his best attempt. 

Isaiah McMichael cleared 1.96m in the high jump, taking second while Corey Rooks finished 11th with a clearance of 1.80m. 

In the pole vault, Connor McClain and Shea Thieves led the way, both clearing 4.25m to finish sixth. Samuel Hall cleared 3.95m to place ninth.  

Next Up 
The Wolves will compete next week at the Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Mississippi. The event takes place over two days, March 21-22, and is hosted by Mississippi State
