Women’s Track and Field Shines at Montevallo Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - UWG Women's Track and Field took on their first outdoor event of the year today, competing in the Montevallo Falcon Classic in Alabama. 

Multiple records, a first place 4x100m team finish and a handful of podiums highlighted the day for West Georgia.  
 
Distance 
Early Friday morning, Kristal McQueen set a new record in the 5000m, besting her own record by nine seconds with a time of 18:15.31 to claim the top spot in the event. Kathrin Maurer was second in the event, crossing the finish line in 18:45.80. Laney Pierce also placed top-15 with a 14th-place finish and a time of 20:32.53. 

Stephanie Beltran's 20th-place finish in the 1500m led the Wolves in that event as the senior ran a personal best time of 5:42.88. 


Chloe Leblanc also led the way for the Wolves in the 800m, placing 13th with a time of 2:36.17. Stephanie Beltran crossed the line at the 2:48.79 mark to finish in 24th.


Relays 

West Georgia's 4x100m relay team ran a 47.83 to claim first place. The team consisted of Shamiya Perry, Tykendra Daniels, Dasani Minter, and Campbell Brown

Sprints and Hurdles 
Freshman Tykendra Daniels posted the third-best 400m time in school history, winning the event with a time of 55.79 and set a meet record in the process. 

Two Wolves finished in the top-three in the 100m hurdles as Olivia Fulford took second and Alexis Doll finished third. Fulford was a tenth of a second faster than Doll posting a 15.33 while Doll crossed in 15.43. 


Shamiya Perry crossed the line first for UWG in the 200m with a time of 26.70, placing 11th. Elizabeth Osborne came in 22 with a time of 27.53.


 In the 400m hurdles, Chloe Leblanc led the way with a first place finish, crossing the line at 1:04.34. Behind Leblanc, Olivia Fulford came in second with a time of 1:06.81 and  Elizabeth Osborne placed fifth with a time of 1:09.99.


Jumps and Pole Vault 
All four UWG competitors placed in the top-ten of the high jump. Leading the way with a 1.55m jump and a fifth-place finish was Olivia Fulford. Following Fulford, Alexis Doll placed sixth with a jump of 1.50m, Haley Trammell placed seventh with a jump of 1.45m and Amaya Hammel closed things out with a jump of 1.45m for a ninth-place finish.

Haley Trammell led the way in the triple jump, placing second with a leap of 11.69m. Behind Trammell, Jordan Kelly jumped 10.57m to place sixth and Amaya Hammel ranked 11 with a jump of 9.75m.


In the high jump, all four Wolves placed in the top-ten. In fifth with a mark of 1.55m was Olivia Fuflord. Behind Fulford, Alexis Doll placed sixth with a jump of 1.50m, Haley Trammell placed seventh with a jump of 1.45m and Amaya Hammel ranked ninth with a jump of 1.45m.


The Wolves continued their dominance by taking all three podium spots in the pole vault. Jumping 3.30m, Carleigh Bynum took first. Emily Jones came in second with a jump of 3.15m. Mallory Peavey rounded things out with a jump of 3.00m to grab third place.


Throws 

In the shot put, UWG had four throwers in the top 11, highlighted by a second-place finish from Day Atkins. The freshman threw 12.10m and was followed by an
fourth-place throw by Dru Green of 11.23m. Chioma Uwaomah placed eighth with a of 10.88m. Daja Freeman took ninth, throwing 10.33m while Kyla Ford finished 11th, tossing a top mark of 9.97m. 


UWG followed this up by placing four Wolves in the top-ten of the hammer throw. Dru Green came in first with a toss of 45.86m, Day Atkins placed second with a mark of 43.67m, Kyla Ford placed fourth with a toss of 43.67m and Madeline Campbell positioned in eighth with a throw of 39.35m.


Dru Green placed third in the discus with a mark of 41.88m. Day Atkins placed fourth with a throw of 39.39m. Daja Freeman threw it 32.89m to place 12th. Kyla Ford placed 17th with a 28.63m throw. Chioma Uwaomah came in 21st with a 24.98m throw.


Alexis Doll led the way in the javelin, placing 12th with a 25.83m throw. Kyla Ford placed 17th with a throw of 23.62m.

The team takes on the Mississippi State Bulldog Relays next weekend.
