STARKVILLE, Miss. – Three school records were broken on Saturday for the UWG men's track and field championships, highlighting the final day's action at the Bulldog Relays in Starkville on the campus of Mississippi State University.
The first came from Kasahn Rivers whose time in the 200m, 21.27, was good for 11th place and ahead of five runners from Alabama and the host Mississippi State. Godsfavor Adenuga then set a record in the long jump, finishing fourth with a best mark of 7.56m. Both of those records were long standing records from UWG storied history before track was discontinued in the mid 1980s. Gavin Barlow's 100m time of 10.71 broke a school record that was set last year in UWG's first men's track and field season since 1985.
Jumps and Vault
In the long jump, Adenuga's record topped Westley Brown's record set in 1975, and he was one of two Wolves in the top-10 as Gavin Barlow took seventh by jumping 7.12m. Ryane Martin and Marcus Thompson finished 15th and 19th in the long jump.
Two Wolves competed in the pole vault. Shea Thiewes cleared 4.40m to place ninth while Samuel Hall took 13th with a clearance of 3.85m.
Sprints and Hurdles
Kasahn Rivers finished 11th in the 200m dash, but it was a historic performance as his time of 21.27 broke a program record set in 1982 before men's track and field was discontinued in 1985. His 11th place finish was among a field of over 70 athletes in the 200m. Matthew Strickland and Treyvon Campbell also finished in the top half, taking 31st and 32nd respectively.
Landon Chanovic led UWG's contingecy in the 110m hurdles, placing 11th with a time of 15.31. Kellen Andrews finished 16th, crossing the finish line at the 15.64 mark, just ahead of Ishmeal Neblett who finished 18th in 15.68.
In the 100m dash, Gavin Barlow finished 17th, in a field of nearly 60, with a time of 10.71 while Jaylen Patterson ran an 11.10 race to finish 36th.
Jonathan Meadows ran a 54.17 to finish fourth in the 400m hurdles while Jamiel Robinson finished 12th.
Throws
Kelechi Ihekwereme was the top UWG representative in the shot put, tossing a best distance of 13.42m which was 16th place.
Two Wolves threw the javelin, led by Conner Changizi's 44.16m throw. He finished 11th while Corey Rooks placed 13th with a throw of 40.65m.
Distance
In the 1500m run, UWG was led by Abenezer Woellore as the freshman finished in 4:02.56 and seventh place while Noah Anderson finished 11th with a time of 4:05.06. In 15th was Solomon Johnson who finished the race in 4:08.62.
Woellore and Johnson placed 11th and 13th respectively in the 800m. Woellore posted a time of 1:56.87 while Johnson finished in 1:57.19. Evan Beasley, Noah Anderson and Joshua Sleight all finished 17th, 21st, and 25th.
Relays
Jonathan Meadows, Kasahn Rivers, Treyvon Campbell, and Gavin Barlow ran the 4x100m relay, and placed fourth with a time of 41.02. The team of Jaylen Patterson, Donavin Butts, Trevor Fair, and Corey Rooks also competed in the 4x100m relay, finishing seventh at 42.71.
