CARROLLTON, Ga. - Two UWG women's basketball standouts earned All-Atlantic Sun Conference awards today, as announced by the league office.
Freshman Destiny Jones was unanimously named to the league's All-Freshman team while senior guard Zuriyah Davis was named to the Academic All-ASUN Team.
Jones, a Louisville, Kentucky native was one of three unanimous All-Freshmen selections. In 29 games this season, Jones started all but one contest and averaged 11.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She was 16th in the league in scoring and second among ASUN freshmen.
On the boards, Jones was fourth overall in the ASUN at 7.7 per game, leading all ASUN freshmen while ranking eighth in the country among Division I freshmen. Jones has recorded nine double-doubles this season, ranking second among Division I freshmen in that category. Additionally, Jones set a UWG record for single-season rebounds by a freshman, topping Karen Garrett's record from the spring of 1981. Jones enters Friday's ASUN Tournament opener with 224 rebounds this season.
Davis, who holds a 3.91 GPA as a senior interdisciplinary studies major, led the Wolves in scoring on her way to being one of eight players in the ASUN named to the All-Academic team. The Sugar Hill native averaged 12.6 points per game and has scored 810 points in her two seasons at UWG and over 1,700 points in her collegiate career between three schools.
