Maurer Breaks Steeplechase Record to Highlight Friday in Atlanta

ATLANTA – Distance runner Kathrin Maurer had the most notable performance for UWG women's track and field on Friday as she set a new UWG record at the Georgia Tech Invitational. 

Maurer set the steeplechase record, last broken in 2016, as the junior ran a time of 11:33.66 breaking the nine-year old record by seven seconds. 

Throws 
In the hammer, Dru Green and Day Atkins placed 27th and 28th, throwing 45.86m and 45.06m respectively.  

Atkins then led the UWG throwers in the shot put finishing 15th with a best throw of 12.94m. Dru Green placed 26th with a throw of 11.80m while Jaycee Woods placed 27th hitting 11.70m with her top mark. 

Jaycee Woods was the only Wolf in the javelin and the sophomore threw 35.68m and placed 12th.  

Hurdles 
Alexis Doll was the only UWG runner in the 100m hurdles, posting a time of 15.34.  

Jumps and Vault 
Taylor Hampton just missed out on advancing to the finals in the long jump, finishing 10th with a best mark of 5.69m.  

Carleigh Bynum cleared 3.70m in the pole vault as UWG's lone representative in the event, and placed 11th. 

Distance 
Along with Maurer's record- breaking performance in the steeplechase, Kristal McQueen ran the 5000m and placed 29th, crossing the finish line in 18:35.29, just 20 seconds off of her own school record which she set earlier this season. 

Day Two 
The action continues from Atlanta tomorrow with the triple jump leading things off from the Georgia Tech campus at 10:30 a.m.
