Wolves Travel to Jax State for Final Non-Conference Game

4/28/2025 1:28:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama on Tuesday for their final non-conference matchup of the season, taking on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 6 p.m. EST.

It's the second time the Wolves and Gamecocks have met this season with JSU winning a March 4 contest in Carrollton, 16-2.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES
West Georgia (12-36) looks to end their inaugural Division I season on a high note, taking to the road for four games in the final week of the regular season.

All eyes are on Blaire Bizette this week as with four games remaining in her career, the senior is batting .391 and currently ahead of the career average record which is .376 set by Nicole Yancy from 2011-14. Bizette sits on 20 career home runs as well which has only been done by 10 other players in program history. One more this week would tie her for eighth all-time.

The Wolves' defense will be looking to improve defensively this week after committing nine errors in the three-game series, including five in a 10-5 loss in game two. UWG has 79 errors this season, which is most in the league and 15 more than the next team, Bellarmine.

UWG started Dixiana Sims the last time they played JSU, and the Gamecocks hit her hard, knocking her out of the game in the fourth inning. Sims did have an RBI double in the loss at the plate.

Calli Hardison leads UWG in the circle with a 3.61 ERA, but Hardison has not pitched a midweek non-conference game since early March at Kennesaw State.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
It's been five straight wins for Jacksonville State (33-18) including a sweep of Sam Houston last weekend to clinch a postseason berth in the CUSA Tournament.

The Gamecocks had 11 hits against the Wolves back in March, with Emma Elrod, their leader in average, Amber Reed, Ashley Phillips, and Aria Davis each getting two hits. Elrod leads JSU in home run with 12 while Kailey Martin has a team-high 43 RBIs. Martin hit the only home run for JSU against the Wolves in the first meeting.

In the circle, JSU's ace is Kat Carter who has a 2.45 ERA through 117.0 innings pitched, but but was MacKinley Portillo who pitched a complete-game victory in the Gamecock's victory over UWG.
