Wolves Break Pair of Records at UWG Legends Meet

CARROLLTON, Ga. -  West Georgia women's track and field wrapped up the UWG Legends Meet today with a record-breaking 3.75m pole vault by Carleigh Bynum, a UWG record discus throw of 43.36m by Day Atkins and 10 UWG podiums.

In addition to these top-three finishes, Kristal McQueen took first in 5000m, Kathrin Maurer finished in first in 3000m steeplechase, Taylor Hampton took first in the long jump, UWG placed first in the 4x400m, Mallory Peavey placed second in pole vault, Tykendra Daniel placed second in the 400m dash, Dru Green ranked third in the shot put, Alexis Doll took third in 100m hurdles and Campbell Brown placed third in the 100m. 


DISTANCE

UWG started the meet with a first place finish by Kristal McQueen in the 5000m with a time of 18.24.14. Laney Pierce crossed at 20:28.13 in fifth and Madeline Gaskin finished at 21:43.31 in ninth place. 

Kathrin Maurer crushed the competition in the 3000m steeplechase, taking first with a time of 11:50.59, almost five minutes faster than second place.


In the 800m, Jordan Jarnot recorded a time of 2:33.04 to earn sixth, Linda Vasquez crossed at 2:35.63 in seventh, Alexis Doll crossed at 2:41.09 in 14th and Stephanie Beltran recorded a time of 2:45.16 in 18th.


RELAY

In the first relay event of the weekend, the 4x100, West Georgia placed fourth on a time of 47.28. The team was made up of Shamiya Perry, Brooklyn Crabtree, Dasani Minter and Campbell Brown.

In the 4x400, the team made up of Jaeva Ridley, Chloe Leblanc, Shamiya Perry and Tykendra Daniels took first with a time of 4:03.63. The second UWG team composed of Alexis Doll, Chloe Leblanc, Olivia Fulford and Linda Vasquez placed fourth with a time of 4:40.43.


HURDLES

Today's only hurdle event was the 100m hurdles. Leading the pack was Alexis Doll in third place with a time of 15.27. After Doll, Chioma Uwaomah crossed the line at 16.22 in ninth and Elizabeth Osborne right behind her with a time of 16.24.

SPRINTS

The 400m marked the first sprinting event of the meet. Tykendra Daniel crossed the line in second place with a time of 56.02 and Jaeva Ridley placed 12th on a mark of 59.82.

In the 100m dash, Campbell Brown led the pack with a third place finish on a time of 11.94. Following Brown, Taylor Hampton placed 22nd with a mark of 12.84, Jordan Kelly placed 30th with a time of 13.13 and Dasani Minter took 33rd on a mark of 13.16.


Campbell Brown led the pack in the 200m with a time of 24.87 to earn fourth. Shamiya Perry placed 24th on a time of 26.66.


JUMPS

Taylor Hampton finished first in the long jump with a mark of 5.67m. Following Hampton, Dasani Minter placed fourth on a jump of 5.30m and Jordan Kelly took 21st with a jump of 4.42m.

In the pole vault, Carleigh Bynum took first with a mark of 3.75m and Mallory Peavey placed second on a jump of 3.15m.


Amaya Hammell jumped 1.42m in the high jump, earning eighth. 


THROWS 

As noted, Day Atkins led the group with a record-breaking discus throw of 43.36m to earn second place. Dru Green also broke the previous record with a 43.19m mark to finish in third. Following these two, Madeline Campbell placed 10th with a throw of 32.60m, Daja Freeman positioned 11th with a throw of 31.95m, Kyla Ford took 12th on a throw of 31.90m and Chioma Uwaomah rounded out the group in 14th with a mark of 31.18m.

The Wolves take on the Georgia Tech Invitational in two weeks in Atlanta (April 18-19).
