PADUCAH, Ky. - Behind the lowest round of the entire tournament, the UWG women's golf team climbed two spots on the final day, finishing third at The Velvet at the Country Club of Paducah.
The Wolves fired a three-over 291 in the final round on Tuesday, finishing just five shots behind the tournament champion Troy and four shots off of second place held by UNC Asheville. It was an all around team effort from the Wolves, who placed two individuals in the top-10 and four in the top-20, and head coach Will Snodgrass was pleased with the performance of his squad in just their second event of 2025-26.
"Character, heart, courage, passion and let's not forget talent, the girls showed it all today. I couldn't be more proud," said Snodgrass following the solid finish. "A third-place finish, while having the lowest score of any team the final round was emphatic."
It was the lowest single-round score for the Wolves under Snodgrass, besting last year's best of 296.
UWG was led by even-par rounds of 72 by Hannah Barrett and Sofia Mondragon in the final round and Barrett notched a fifth-place finish, the best of her career thus far. Barrett made three birdies in her final round including back-to-back threes on her back nine.
For Mondragon, she rolled in three birdies on the day, beginning her day with a birdie and then adding two more on her 17th and 18th holes of the day, and finished in a seventh-place tie.
Emma Baier was next on the leaderboard for UWG, finishing her first tournament as a Wolf with a one-over par round of 73. The junior overcame two double bogeys in the middle of her round with three birdies including her 16th and 18th holes of the round to finish in 18th place individually.
Freshman Sophie Dhaliwal had a final round 78 and finished with a top-20 finish in just her second collegiate event. Sophomore Anna Olesen, who struggled on Monday, shot the best round of her week in the final round, posting a 74 and finishing in 38th place.
The 36-over par team total over 54 holes is the lowest score to par since February of 2024 at the Low Tide Intercollegiate when the Wolves shot 33-over par on the way to a fourth-place finish. UWG's third place finish this week is the best tournament finish in the Division I era.
"We'll continue on with our process and build this team better together and be ready for our next event at ECU," concluded Snodgrass.
The Wolves are back in action the first week of October, traveling to Greenville, North Carolina for the Pirate Collegiate Classic on October 6-7.
