West Georgia Men's Basketball Announces ASUN Slate

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Following last month's release of the UWG men's basketball non-conference schedule, the program rounded out the report by announcing the Atlantic Sun Conference slate today.

Discussing this year's ASUN schedule, head coach Dave Moore said, "This is a good league. And just like any good league, in the Atlantic Sun, there's no nights off. There's no games where you're like, oh yeah, that's a win. There are no easy ASUN wins. Everybody's really well coached, everybody's prepared, everybody's got good players, and that's the mark of a good conference in college basketball."

Composed of nine home games and nine away games, West Georgia will kickoff conference-play on New Years, with the Wolves hosting Bellarmine on January 1. Two days later (Jan 3), Eastern Kentucky comes to Carrollton for a Saturday showdown in the City of Dreams.

Following the pair of home contests, West Georgia takes on a four-game road stretch that includes back-to-back trips to Florida. First, UWG will face UNF (Jan. 8) and Jacksonville (Jan. 10), before returning to the Sunshine State to play Stetson (Jan. 15) and Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 17) a week later.

After this long period of road games, the ASUN action continues in The Coliseum with Central Arkansas coming to town for a week four matchup (Jan. 22). UWG will then host Queens that Saturday (Jan. 24).

Going back on the road, the Wolves travel to Bellarmine (Jan. 28) for the first rematch of the season, before hosting Austin Peay (Jan. 31), North Florida (Feb. 5) and Jacksonville (Feb. 7). Remarkably, UWG secured their first-ever ASUN win and went 2-0 against APSU last year. The team also grabbed its first home ASUN win against UNF last year.

The script then flips for the Wolves, as UWG will go back on the road to take on four straight away games, starting with North Alabama (Feb. 11), followed by UCA (Feb. 14), EKU (Feb. 18) and Queens (Feb. 21) for the final away game.

To close out the regular season, West Georgia hosts Lipscomb (Feb. 25), then UNA (Feb. 28) for Senior Day.

For the first time in UWG men's basketball history, the team will wrap up the season competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida (March 4-8), as all 12 ASUN teams will automatically qualify for the tournament.

"The season will be here soon. We're excited to get going," said coach Moore. "This year's team has much more experience. Last season, we only had one or two games played in DI. I added it up the other day, we've got 230 games of DI experience, 115 starts. We've got four returners from last year's team that played a bunch of games, so I'm hopeful that will help us. We're also really excited about the group of guys that we brought in and what their upside is." Click here to see which Wolves returned, and who coach Moore and staff brought in over the offseason.
