UWG Men’s Basketball Adds Josh Smith

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia's 2025 men's basketball class just got a little bit bigger with head coach Dave Moore announcing today that Josh Smith has officially signed to UWG.

Hailing from Chicago, Smith is a 6-foot-4 senior guard who most recently played for North Carolina Central University, a DI team competing in the formidable MEAC conference.

"We are really excited to add Josh Smith to the @UWG_MBB Family! Josh is a long versatile 6'4 combo guard that can play multiple positions and score the ball," said coach Moore on the newest addition. "He had very good production at Independence CC and has gained valuable Division I experience at NC Central. Our staff can't wait to get him on campus and go to work. We expect Josh to come in and make an immediate impact this season for UWG!"

Over a two-year period with NCCU Eagles, Smith played in 32 games and started in two, recording a 6.1 points per game average while shooting 42 percent from wherever he wanted it. In addition to these solid scoring averages, Smith totaled 45 rebounds, 37 assists, 20 steals and three blocks. One of his most impressive performances was a 21-point night against Gardner Webb in which he went an outstanding 5-for-10 (50 percent) from the field and 3-of-5 (60 percent) from deep, while totaling five assists and three steals.

Prior to playing at NCCU, Smith started his collegiate career at Independence Community College, a Kansas junior college that plays in one of the toughest conferences at that level, the KJCC. During his freshman year, the guard averaged 13.9 ppg while shooting a remarkable 48 percent from the field over his 30 appearances. He also accumulated 81 rebounds, 35 steals, 32 assists and two blocks at ICC.

Prior to playing in college, Smith prepared with The Skill Factory (TSF), a post-graduate program out of Atlanta.

Smith's commitment marks the fourth of the 2025 West Georgia men's basketball class, joining Micah Smith, Matija Žužić and JaVar Daniel.
