UWG Welcomes Governors to the City of Dreams

10/2/2026 11:14:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-7-2, 0-2 UAC) returns home Sunday, October 4, to face Austin Peay (1-9-1, 0-2 UAC) at University Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Wolves are coming off a 2-1 loss at Eastern Kentucky in their first conference road match of the season. UWG battled back from a 1-0 deficit early in the second half when Kaylen Brown converted a penalty kick in the 51st minute to tie the match. The goal marked Brown's first of the season and fourth of her career.

Brown's penalty kick was UWG's first successful penalty kick since September 7, 2025, when Katherine Hagans scored against Alabama State.

UWG will look to generate more offensive opportunities against the Governors after being outshot 26-8 by EKU. The Wolves have recorded 57 shots through nine matches this season and are averaging 6.3 shots per match. Austin Peay has taken 101 shots and averages 9.2 per match.

Emily Sanabria has continued to anchor the Wolves' defense throughout the season. The sophomore goalkeeper leads the UAC with 66 total saves and 8.25 saves per match. She also ranks second in the conference with a .846 save percentage and fifth with a 1.60 goals-against average.

Sophomore Kaialani Wise has also remained a constant presence on the Wolves' back line. Wise has started every match across the 2025 and 2026 seasons and has played 1,605 of UWG's 1,710 minutes during that span, missing just 105 minutes across 28 matches.

Sunday's matchup marks just the second meeting between UWG and Austin Peay. The Governors won the first matchup 2-0 on October 20, 2024, at University Soccer Field.

Austin Peay enters Sunday's matchup following a 2-1 loss to North Alabama. Anna Drexel scored the Governors' lone goal on a free kick in the 55th minute, cutting the Lions' lead in half.

The Governors have scored five goals through 11 matches this season and recorded two assists. Austin Peay currently ranks seventh in the UAC in shots with 101, while UWG ranks eighth with 57.

Austin Peay has been outshot 173-101 this season, with opponents averaging 15.7 shots per match compared to 9.2 for the Governors. The Wolves have also faced a significant difference in shot volume, being outshot 166-57 through nine matches.

While Austin Peay has generated more shots, UWG has been slightly more accurate with its attempts, putting 49.1 percent of its shots on goal compared to 48.5 percent for the Governors.

Thursday afternoon's matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m. at University Soccer Field. All UWG soccer matches are free admission, so fans are encouraged to come out and support the Wolves. For those unable to attend in person, the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
