CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-9-2, 0-4 UAC) returns to University Field on Sunday, Oct. 11, welcoming Central Arkansas (4-6-3, 1-2-1 UAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
West Georgia is coming off a 3-0 loss to Little Rock on Thursday night, while Central Arkansas enters Sunday's matchup following a 1-0 defeat at Eastern Kentucky. Central Arkansas currently sits at the bottom of the Red Division and West Georgia currently at the bottom of the Blue Division.
Noemi Casique has led the Wolves offensively this season, ranking first on the team in goals, points and shots while sharing the team lead in shots on goal. Casique has scored twice this season, netting West Georgia's first goal of the campaign in the season opener against Jacksonville State on Aug. 12 before finding the back of the net again against Austin Peay on Oct. 4. Her offensive production will be important as the Wolves look to generate scoring opportunities and break through against Central Arkansas on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Emily Sanabria remains a key piece of the Wolves' defensive effort, leading the UAC with 75 total saves while ranking third in the conference with a .806 save percentage.Â
Central Arkansas features several dangerous offensive players, including Caroline Billings, who is tied for second in the UAC with five goals this season. Sakiko Manabe, who was on the Preseason All-UAC team, and Jama Akpanudo are also important contributors to the Bears' attack, with both players tied for third in the conference with four assists.Â
The Bears will enter Sunday's contest looking to rebound from their 1-0 loss at Eastern Kentucky. Central Arkansas generated offensive pressure throughout the match, creating several chances to equalize after conceding an early goal. The Bears also earned multiple corner kicks late in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net against the Colonels.Â
Sunday's contest will mark the third meeting between West Georgia and Central Arkansas in program history. The teams first met on Oct. 2, 2005, playing to a 3-3 draw in Carrollton. Their most recent matchup also took place in Carrollton on Sept. 22 during West Georgia's inaugural Division I season and the first year under head coach Mallory Sayre, with Central Arkansas earning a 1-0 victory.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at University Field in Carrollton, Georgia.
