MOBILE, Ala. - The UWG women's golf team gave it all they had on Tuesday in the final round of the Magnolia Collegiate, but finished in second place behind the tournament hosts. West Georgia's third round of 297 was their lowest of the event and second lowest of the day.
UWG entered the tournament ranked behind nine of the 12 Division I teams in the field, and after 54 holes at RTJ Magnolia Grove, the Wolves finished behind only the tournament champion and host South Alabama.
"I couldn't be more proud of our group. Today was always going to be a big challenge and a chance to grow," said head coach Will Snodgrass. "The team didn't back down and played some amazing golf throughout the day. We learned a lot today, and it will set us up for more success in the future."
Emma Baier posted a career-best finish, coming in second after a final round 72. Baier made four birdies on the day and finished two shots off of the winning score.
Three shots behind her was Hannah Barrett who tied for third, also a career-best. Barrett also carded four birdies on Tuesday and finished with a 74.
Sofia Mondragon finished in the top-15, placing 14th after a third round 75. A final round 76 for Sophie Dhaliwal put the freshman in a 27th place. Rounding out the lineup was Keira Wolf who posted a 78 and finished in 42nd place.
UWG finished the event ahead of four other ASUN schools: Lipscomb, who finished third, Stetson who took fourth, Central Arkansas who placed sixth, and North Alabama who finished 11th.
"We are talented, we are confident, and we are getting better," added Snodgrass. "It's an exciting time for our program."
West Georgia's next action is at the Bentwater Collegiate held at Bentwater Golf Club in Acworth, Georgia on March 23-24.
