UWG Takes Second at Bulldog Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- After sitting in third place following day one, the University of West Georgia women's track and field team delivered a strong second day to move into second place at the Bulldog Invitational with 129 total points.

UWG opened the meet with seven top-five finishes, three event wins, and four personal bests on day one, before adding eight top-five finishes, three event wins, and four personal bests, along with a school record, on day two. Across the weekend, the Wolves totaled 15 top-five finishes, six event wins, eight personal bests, and one school record.

Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
In the discus, Day Atkins led UWG with a second-place finish, recording a throw of 42.29m. Leilah Mathieu followed with a mark of 35.54m, while Ariana Hale rounded out the group at 31.61m. In the shot put, Atkins secured her second gold medal of the weekend, winning the event with a throw of 13.74m. Kyla Ford narrowly missed a top-five finish with a mark of 11.08m, and Mathieu followed at 10.61m.

In the pole vault, Carleigh Bynum was the lone competitor for UWG and earned a first-place finish with a season-best clearance of 3.69m. In the triple jump, Jordan Kelly represented the Wolves with a second-place finish, posting a mark of 11.21m.

Sprints & Hurdles
In the 100m, Kellie Walker led UWG with a fourth-place finish in 12.03, followed by Lia LongIn the 400m, Ty Daniel claimed first place with a personal-best time of 54.93. Chloe Leblanc followed closely behind, also recording a personal best of 55.37 to finish second. Jordan Jarnot added another personal best, finishing in 1:03.9.

Distance
In the 800m, Reatta Danhof took fourth place with a personal-best time of 2:15.97, which also set a new UWG school record. Linda Rivero followed with a season-best time of 2:23.19, while Linda Vasquez rounded out the group in 2:30.87.

Relays
UWG secured a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay, as the team of Daniel, Leblanc, Walker, and Danhof posted a time of 3:53.81.

Up Next
UWG will have a three week break before traveling to Starkville, Mississippi, for the Maroon and White Tune-Up, the final meet before the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
