Non-Conference Midweek Takes Wolves to Atlanta

4/13/2026 12:57:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Coming off a 2-1 home series loss to ASUN foe North Florida, West Georgia baseball gets back on the road to rematch the Georgia State Panthers this Tuesday at the GSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and the live stat link is tagged on the schedule.

Still searching for its first midweek win of the season, UWG (11-24, 8-7 ASUN) heads to Atlanta to take on a GSU team (18-19, 7-8 SBC) that recently broke out of a cold slump by securing back-to-back Sun Belt series victories.

In the latest matchup against Georgia State, the Panthers cut the Wolves' all-time series lead to 12-6-1 with a commanding 8-2 win at Cole Field. Notably, that game was originally set to be played in Atlanta, but the site was switched due to inclement weather flooding the GSU Baseball Complex.

With only a month of regular season play left, UWG posts an 8.28 ERA, while the Panthers post a 6.02 ERA. Neither team has announced who they are starting on Tuesday.

In the 8-2 loss, UWG gave junior righty Grant Edwards the starting nod. Through 15 appearances, Edwards has posted a 3.80 ERA, 14 strikeouts and a 1-2 overall record this season. Another pitcher the West Georgia faithful may see on the mound this Tuesday is sophomore righty Wilson Donnelly. Pitching in nine games this year, Donnelly has recorded a 13.30 ERA, 13 strikeouts and a 0-4 record.

Looking at the Panthers' pitchers, GSU went with senior righty Will Bartkoski in the latest matchup against UWG. Making a team-high 15 appearances this year, Bartkoski has tallied a 4.85 ERA, 27 strikeouts and a 2-0 record. Another pitcher GSU might go with on Tuesday is graduate student Brian Crooms. Making his 11th appearance in last week's midweek, the righty has recorded a 6.55 ERA, 17 strikeouts and a 3-2 record this year.

Moving to the batter's box, the Wolves have averaged 5.1 runs per game while posting a .257 team batting average, .343 on-base percentage and a .389 slugging percentage. On the other hand, GSU has averaged 6.4 runs per game while recording a .264 team batting average, .369 on-base percentage and a .380 slugging percentage.

Over the past week of play, second baseman Gabe Wuerth has been on a tear in the batter's box. Totaling 15 at-bats in the past week, Wuerth has recorded a team-high seven hits, resulting in a .467 batting average, 467 slugging percentage and a stellar .529 on-base percentage. The senior infielder capped off this week of play with back-to-back multi-hit games, highlighted by a three-hit performance in the UNF series finale. Wuerth is currently riding a season-high five-game hitting streak.

For GSU, the Panthers have been led by sophomore outfielder John Beverley in the batter's box. Currently, he leads the team in hits (48), stolen bases (20), OPS (.911), on-base percentage (.455) and batting average (.384). Beverley struck out once and was held to one hit in the last matchup vs UWG.

First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex. A live stat link is tagged on the UWG baseball schedule if you are unable to make the trip to Atlanta. GSU is not streaming the game.
