CARROLLTON, Ga. - There's no rest for UWG softball as they are right back to action on Tuesday, heading to Montgomery for a non-conference showdown with Alabama State at 7 p.m. EST.
West Georgia (13-31) is coming off of a series win as they ready for Tuesday's game against Alabama State (16-27). The Hornets are also coming into the game with a series win, although ASU won the last two of their series at Florida A&M while UWG defeated FGCU in games one and two before dropping the finale.
Last week saw Ella Oswalt lead the offense with a 7-for-17 week, driving in seven RBIs with three doubles and one home run. The freshman now has seven home runs on the season which is second on the team and is batting .287 which also ranks second.
The leader in average, home runs, and RBIs for UWG is Jenna Samuel. The junior is coming off of a week where she hit .333 with a home run and six RBIs. Samuel is batting .390 on the year with eight home runs and 35 RBIs.
Senior Calli Hardison regained the team lead in ERA after picking up a complete game victory in game two of the series. Hardison, who has an ERA of 5.11 this season, allowed two earned runs on two solo shots in that win, and the Wolves won it 3-2 on a walkoff by Samuel.
The 3-2 win was the 10th one-run game for the Wolves this season and UWG is now 6-4 in games decided by one run.
Alabama State is led by Talee Sims who has a .386b average with seven doubles, a triple, and two home runs. The Hornets' Alana Scott has a .330 average and leads ASU in home runs with five, doubles with nine, and RBIs with 34.
As a team, ASU has a .291 average, giving them the advantage on paper as UWG enters play at .224 as a team.
UWG has the lower team ERA, however, as they have a 6.11 team ERA and Alabama State sits at 6.69. Kohana Pousson leads the Hornets' pitching staff with a 4.10 ERA over 99.0 innings pitched.
