CARROLLTON, Ga. - For the second straight weekend, UWG softball is at home in Atlantic Sun Conference play, hosting the FGCU Eagles in a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday at University Field.
THE SCHEDULE
West Georgia (11-30, 3-9 ASUN) comes into the series looking to snap a 10-game skid, while FGCU (14-23, 8-4 ASUN) looks to rebound after losing their first conference series last weekend at Jacksonville.
During UWG's 10-game skid, the offense has struggled, but in its most recent loss, the Wolves recorded their second-highest hit total of the season (10). But in the last 10 games combined, UWG is hitting .187 (42-for-225). FGCU comes in with a 4.92 ERA and a batting average against of .285 and the Wolves look to get more runs across this weekend as they near the stretch run of the season.
Leading the UWG offense is Jenna Samuel. The junior from Louisiana leads UWG in average (.393), home runs (7), and RBIs (30). She ranks eighth in the ASUN in OPS (1.181), sixth in doubles (10), and fourth in on-base percentage (.500). Ella Oswalt had two hits last time out, hopefully heating up her bast after she hit six homers in the first 18 games of the season. The freshman is second on the team with a .265 average.
FGCU has the advantage in team batting average, hitting .265 to UWG's team clip of .220. The Eagles are led by Sietske Drijvers who is hitting .309, just above Olivia Black with a .305 average. Mackenzie Leiti is FGCU's home run leader with six.
Grace Taylor and Julia Bacoulis lead FGCU in the circle, combining to pitch 67 percent of their total innings this year. Taylor has a 4.30 ERA while Bacoulis has a 4.59 ERA, but leads in strikeouts with 60 through almost 80 innings pitched.
The doubleheader begins Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
