UWG Heads to Troy for Wednesday Doubleheader

4/7/2026 10:00:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team is back in action on the midweek, non-conference circuit this week, traveling to Troy for a Wednesday doubleheader set to begin at 4:30 p.m. EST.

West Georgia (11-28) is in the midst of an eight-game skid as they look to get back in the win column. It will be a tough task against a solid Troy (23-14) team that outscored UWG 23-4 in a doubleheader in Carrollton in 2025.

During the eight-game skid UWG is struggling at the plate and look to break out of that slump this week. One player not in a slump is Jenna Samuel who is batting .400 on the year and went 3-for-8 with a double and two home runs in the series last week. Samuel took the team lead in home runs, hitting her sixth and seventh long balls of the season.

West Georgia also got home runs this weekend from senior Madison McDonald and freshman Cacie Cutright. Both have four home runs entering play this week.

The Wolves pitching staff will look to rebound after a tough week against one of the best home run hitting teams in the country last weekend. Stetson slugged eight home runs on the weekend and now have 58 this season.

Troy is a solid offensive team, entering play with a .338 team average with 31 team home runs.

McKinnon Howard leads the Trojans with a .425 average while Makaley Boswell represents the biggest bat in the lineup. Boswell is batting .409 with 13 doubles, four triples, and six home runs while driving in 37 RBIs.

Troy's pitching staff has a cumulative ERA of 3.10, led by Abby Lovell's 2.51 ERA over a team-high 86.1 innings pitched. Ella Cunningham, who leads Troy with seven home runs at the plate, also has a 3.06 ERA and has struck out 59 batters in 52.2 innings pitched.

The Wolves and Trojans are set to square off at 4:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday from the Troy Softball Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
