CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia track and field program claimed four ASUN weekly awards this week, with two honors coming from each team. The Wolves have now earned a program-record seven conference awards over a two-week span, highlighted by
Day Atkins being named Women's Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Last week, the West Georgia men's team captured its second straight meet title for the first time in program history at the Bulldog Invitational, while the women's team posted a second-place finish. Blake Davis turned in a strong all-around performance, placing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.82m, which ranks him as the top freshman in the ASUN in the event. He followed that with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.96m, and currently stands as the top freshman in the conference and fourth overall in the event.
Vaughn Dickenson Jr. delivered a dominant performance, earning first place in the 100m with a time of 10.46, which ranks him as the top sprinter in the ASUN. He also posted a new personal best in the 200m at 21.87, placing him among the top 10 in the conference.
Kellie Walker delivered an impressive performance, placing fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.03, finishing as the top freshman in the race. She currently ranks eighth in the ASUN and stands as the second-fastest freshman in the conference in the event. Walker also claimed first place in the 200m with a personal-best time of 24.31, which ranks fourth in the ASUN and leads all freshmen. Additionally, she contributed as the third leg of the 4x400m relay team that secured a second-place finish with a time of 3:53.81.
Day Atkins earned the award for the second consecutive week after another dominant showing across the throws. She won the hammer throw with a mark of 49.77m, ranking among the top 10 in the ASUN. She also placed second in the discus with a throw of 42.29m and currently sits third in the conference. In the shot put, Atkins secured another first-place finish with a mark of 13.74m and ranks among the top five in the ASUN.
The Wolves return to action on May 1 at the Maroon and White Tune Up in Starkville, which will serve as their final meet before the ASUN Championships.
