Wolves Return to the Road, Head to Stetson for Weekend Series

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team has three series remaining in the regular season, and the next two are on the road with the Wolves traveling to Stetson this weekend for a three-game set in DeLand.

West Georgia (13-32, 5-10 ASUN) is coming off of a midweek loss at Alabama State, but won their last ASUN series over FGCU. Stetson (26-18, 11-4 ASUN) also fell in midweek action, but the Hatters swept UWG in an earlier series in Carrollton. 

Stetson outscored UWG 32-7 in that series, hitting eight home runs in the three games. For the entire season, the Hatters have slugged 63 home runs which ranks 23rd in the country. 

West Georgia was held to just nine hits in that series, batting .153 against Stetson. Since then, the Wolves are batting .268 in six games. In the past four games, UWG has slugged seven home runs and are led by Jenna Samuel's nine while the junior leads in average at .394.  

The Wolves' pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.20 and is led by Cacie Cutright with a 5.14 ERA. The freshman also boasts a .333 average with six home runs and 17 RBIs.  

Madison McDonald and Ella Oswalt have also been solid contributors offensively as they each have 22 RBIs. Oswalt has slugged seven home runs while McDonald has four. 

The Hatters are led by Nicole Edmiaston's .461 average while she also has slugged 19 home runs. Irianis Garcia was a tough out for the Wolves in Carrollton as she went 7-for-9 with a home run and three RBIs in the series on her way to ASUN Player of the Week honors. 

Ava Braswell leads Stetson in the circle and has a 3.19 ERA and a 13-9 record. The sophomore was the ASUN Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete game, two-hitter. 

Entering play this weekend, Stetson is tied with Jacksonville for the Graphite Division lead while UWG is two games behind North Florida for the fourth spot in the Division. The top four teams in each division will make up the ASUN Tournament field. 

UWG and Stetson will begin their series on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader and the finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
