Carrollton, GA - The University of West Georgia Wolves are starting off the season on a positive note stealing a tough game on the road against Montevallo and then winning their home opener tonight against Miles College by a final score of 16-0.

Both Miles College and UWG came into this afternoon's game with a record of 1-2, but the final outcome was lopsided, as West Georgia's offense could not be contained. In fact, the Wolves offense has been on fire as they have scored 46 runs through their first four games.

Jamie Sexton took the hill in today's game showing excellent command of his fastball and exceptional movement on his breaking pitches. Sexton was getting ahead of hitters through his five innings of work striking out a total of six Golden Bears and only walking one. Sexton was credited the win and is now 1-1 on the season.

The Wolves offense came out of the gates a bit slow in the first two innings, but once the third inning came around, there was no letting up. UWG scored at least one run an inning from there on out.

West Georgia reached the run column in the bottom of the third inning when Neal Gandee picked up a sacrifice RBI on a grounder to second base driving in Harrison Waller who reached first base by a lead off walk. The Wolves added one more run in the inning when Troy Brown came into score off an error by the pitcher. This was Brown's first run scored out of a total of four in the game.

Miles committed five errors in the game, and UWG capitalized on every mistake the Golden Bears made. A perfect example came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brown reached base by a throwing error by Mile's third baseman and advanced to second on the throw. JoJo Underwood was up next and with no hesitation; Underwood drove the ball into center field scoring Brown from second. After Underwood stole second base, Andrew Witte was able to pick up an RBI single to score him making the score 5-0.

Heading into today's game the Wolves were 8-8 in stolen bases, and the team continued to be aggressive as they were 6-6 in the game.

The biggest inning in the game came in the bottom half of the seventh as the Wolves put up a flattering eight runs. UWG already led 7-0 going into the inning, but rallied late in the game to extend their lead. In the inning, UWG scored eight runs off six hits and two errors. Trey Dickson, Jake Shirley, Galen Smith, Cameron Eison, and Sumner McWhorter all picked up RBI for the team.

Smith led the Wolves in a great offense attack going 3-for-4 with 2 walks and 2 RBI. Underwood also had an impressive game going 3-for-5 with 4 runs scored.

The Wolves continue their home stand as they take on Georgia Regents University Augusta in a double header on Saturday, February 8, at 1:00 and 4:00, and then the series finale on Sunday at 1:00.
