Carrollton, GA - The UWG baseball team turned in a solid effort in Saturday's doubleheader against the Georgia Regents Jaguars, falling 4-1 in the opening game followed by a 13-4 victory in the nightcap.

Game 1 - GRU 4, UWG 1
In the opener, the Jaguars scored four runs on five hits in the first inning off of junior starter Cody Skinner. That was all that the Ranburne, Ala. native allowed, as Georgia Regents had no runs on three hits in the final eight innings of the game. Skinner went the route, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking two in a dominating performance in the last eight frames.

The offense struggled in the game, collecting seven hits in the nine-inning contest. West Georgia picked up one run in the first inning on a single from right fielder Casey James, but the Wolves left nine runners on base in the contest, falling short on several scoring opportunities.

James was the only player with multiple hits on the day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Galen Smith, Sumner McWhorter, Troy Brown, Jake Shirley and Neal Gandee also had hits in the game.

Game 2 - UWG 13, GRU 4
In the second game, the UWG bats came alive for 13 runs on 13 hits. Of those 13 hits, only one was an extra-base hit as senior center fielder Shaquille Jackson doubled in his first start of the year. Jackson was 4-for-5 on the afternoon with a run scored and an RBI in his return to head coach Skip Fite's lineup.

It was also a big day for freshman lefthander Colton Duttweiler, who had his second-straight strong outing on Saturday. Fite gave Duttweiler the ball for the start on the mound in Game 2, and the lefty responded by delivering a solid out with four runs allowed on seven hits. He struck out four batters and walked one in picking up his first collegiate victory.

The big inning for the UWG bats came in the third inning, as the Wolves came into the inning trailing GRU by a 3-2 count. In the inning, West Georgia pounded out six hits and took advantage of three Georgia Regents errors to the tune of eight runs in the frame, giving hte Wolves a commanding 10-3 advantage.

The Wolves added a run in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to push their lead out even further.

Four players had multiple hits in the game, led by Jackson's four hits. JoJo Underwood was 2-for-4 with a run scored and James was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Andrew Witte added a 3-for-4 effort with a run scored and two RBI to aid in the effort.

On the mound for the Wolves, Chris Burdette and Cole Janousek faced the minimum in the final three innings of the game to close out the contest.

West Georgia moves to 3-3 on the season and Georgia Regents falls to 2-3. The three-game series comes to a close on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the final game of the three-game set. Senior All-American Jamie Sexton is scheduled to take the hill for the Wolves in that game.
