Carrollton, GA - After winning yesterday's game against Florida Tech, The University of West Georgia wrapped up their three-game series against FIT today, losing game one of the doubleheader by a final score of 7-0 and game two 6-3.
Game One
Jamie Sexton took the hill for the Wolves in game one of the doubleheader, but got roughed up early, surrendering five runs off eight hits in just 3.1 innings.
Florida Tech also went with their ace, Scott Ward, to start the first game on Saturday. Ward ended up pitching the complete game and improving his record to 5-0, allowing no runs off of just seven hits.
Florida Tech scored a total of five runs in the third and fourth innings combined off of six hits. That early 5-0 lead after four innings was plenty for Ward, as him and his defense didn't allow a run.
Sumner McWhorter,
Galen Smith, and
Harrison Waller had six of the seven hits in the game, as each player had a two-hit performance.
Game Two
GSC Pitcher of the week,
Cole Janousek, started for West Georgia in the second game of the doubleheader. Although the Panthers were once again able to get an early lead in the game scoring five runs in the first three innings.
However, the Wolves would respond in the second game, as they scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the Panther lead down to three, making the score 5-2.
In the bottom of the third,
Bryan Dunson led off the inning with a single through the left side. Later in the inning,
Troy Brown came up with runners on the corners and singled to third base, scoring Dunson, giving the Wolves their first run on the day.
Shaquille Jackson then added the second run of the game, coming in to score on a wild pitch.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wolves trailed 6-2.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Wolves would score one more run as
Andrew Witte led the inning off with a pinch-hit single through the right side. Witte eventually came into score on a wild pitch making the game 6-3. Michaell Knott picked up the save for the Panthers, as the 6-3 score is how the game would finish.
With the two losses, UWG moves to 8-14 on the year. West Georgia Baseball is back in action this Tuesday at Cole Field against North Georgia at 5:00 p.m.
