Carrollton, GA - The UWG Baseball team finished the series with UAH on Saturday with a win in the first game and a close lose in the second game. The Wolves picked up their seventh win of the season and their first Conference win against the Chargers with an offensive explosion, winning 17-5 in the first game followed by a 5-4 loss in the second.
Jamie Sexton started for the Wolves in the early game and he continued his great season, picking up his third win of the season as UWG won the game 17-5. He went the full seven innings only giving up one earned run while striking out seven batters. The Wolves had 17 hits in the game and
Payton Mann led the team with four hits and five RBI.
Justin Croft hit his first home run of the season with a three-run shot to right-center field.
Sumner McWhorter,
Troy Brown, and
Garrett Hayes each picked up two RBI for the game and no one else had more than one.
Brandon Goldsmith started the second game for UWG and he struggled early in the game, giving up two runs in the first inning. He went 1.1 innings giving up five hits and four earned runs. The Wolves got on the board in the second inning when Brown had an RBI single that scored McWhorter.
Dalton Rogers had two RBI on a single in the fourth which tied the game at four apeice. The Chargers hit a homerun in the sixth which would be the difference in the game.
A.J. Sunstrom came on to replace Goldsmith in the second and he pitched well, going 4.2 innings while only giving up one earned run. The Wolves would not be able to overcome a pair of homeruns from the Chargers and would lose the game 5-4.
UWG will have one more road game before they return home to Cole Field. Their next game will be against Morehouse on Wednesday, February 18th in Atlanta. The Wolves next Conference game is next Saturday with a three-game series against West Alabama.
