UWG falls in midweek game against Georgia College

Carrollton, GA - The UWG Baseball team had their seven-game win streak snapped on Wednesday with a 9-2 loss against the Georgia College Bobcats in Milledgeville. The loss puts the Wolves' record at 14-6 on the season and is their first since February 21st against West Alabama.

The starting pitcher for UWG was Josh Morgan who made his third start of the season and pitched well in the game. The only run that he allowed came on a leadoff homerun to start the bottom of the first inning. After giving up the homerun, he settled in and pitched into the fifth inning only giving up two hits, and he had five strikeouts. The story of the game was the sixth inning, which proved to be costly for UWG. Lefthander Colton Duttweiler came in to pitch for Morgan and he only faced two batters allowing one hit and a walk.

Ethan Hunter would come on a replace Duttweiler in the sixth with no outs and he also struggled only recording one out and giving up three runs. After a sac fly scored the first run of the inning, Troy Brown made a costly error that allowed two unearned runs to score for the Bobcats and there was also a two run homerun in the inning to cap off the sixth. UWG would respond in the top of the 7th with two runs of their own when Troy Brown had a sac fly that scored Taylor Bentley and Drew Eady would score on a wild pitch shortly after.

The Wolves were very aggressive at the plate in the first two innings and they did not get their first hit of the game until the third inning when Drew Eady had a single to left field. For the game, UWG only had four hits total, led by Eady, who had two of the four hits and he also scored a run. Payton Mann and Troy Brown were the only other UWG players with a hit for the game.

The game was delayed for just over an hour in the bottom of the seventh inning because lightning was in the area. After the Delay, A.J. Sunstrom and Tyler Gunnin combined to finish the game for the Wolves only giving up one hit in two innings.

UWG will continue the season with a doubleheader against Shorter on Saturday, March 14th starting at 12:00pm in Rome. The final game of the series will be on Sunday starting at 2:00pm.
