UWG set for Final Series of season Against Union

Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves will travel to Jackson,TN for the final series of the season starting with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:00pm, and a single game set for Monday with first pitch also scheduled for 1:00pm. The start of the series was initially scheduled for Saturday, but with rain forecast for the Jackson area, the series was pushed back a day for the best possible chance to get all three games played.
This weekend marks the final Conference series of the season for the West Georgia baseball team as they get ready to take on the Union Bulldogs at Fesmire Field. The Bulldogs (7-36, 5-25) have struggled for much of the season while the Wolves (28-13, 19-10) have a chance to have a 30 win season which will be the most wins for the team in a season in more than 10 years. Also in the series, UWG has a chance to remain third in the GSC Conference standings entering the Conference tournament.

After their convincing win against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday, the Wolves now have a three game winning streak entering this weekend's series in Jackson,TN. The biggest winning streak of the season occurred at the end of April and beginning of March as the team won seven straight games, which all came against Conference opponents.

When the Wolves begin play on Sunday, Troy Brown will have an 11 game hitting streak at the plate. The 11 game hitting streak is currently tied for the longest this season, as Artemis Kadkhodaian also had an 11 game hitting streak which was broke in the last game against Georgia Southwestern. Tyler Hutch also had a double digit hit streak broken last game as his hitting streak ended at ten games. The next longest hitting streak on the team belongs to Sumner McWhorter who has currently hit safely in the last four games.?
One of the keys to the upcoming series this weekend against Union will be leading after the sixth inning. When the Wolves have led after six innings this season, the team has an outstanding record of 19-1 opposed to 5-8 when they are trailing. One of the main reasons the team is so successful when leading after six is the UWG bullpen. Tyler Gunnin has collected ten saves on the season and Chris Burdette has done a great job holding the lead in late game situations.
