CARROLLTON, Ga. - A trip to the Gulf South Conference championship game and a record-breaking season were catalysts for additional postseason honors for two UWG Volleyball players this week. Tierra White, who was named GSC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference, was named AVCA All-South Region and South Region Freshman of the Year. In addition, senior Madi Fleming was named Honorable Mention All-South Region.
White has been the most decorated player for the Wolves throughout the 2019 season, as she was named GSC Freshman of the Week five times and Offensive Player of the Week once. She led the Gulf South Conference and is currently 12th nationally in hitting percentage, finishing her first year with a .389 hitting percentage. White was also second in the league in kills per set, averaging 3.69 on the year and sixth in blocks, averaging 1.04 blocks per set. She was also second in the conference in average points per set with 4.41. She was the fourth UWG player to be named Freshman of the Year and the first UWG player to earn Region Freshman of the Year honors.
Fleming has had quite a journey over the last two weeks, as she led the Wolves to the most conference victories in school history with 13 wins on the year. She led the Wolves to the Gulf South Conference tournament and the GSC Championship game before the season closed with a 3-2 loss to West Florida. She also became just the 10th setter in UWG volleyball history with 1,000 assists in a single season.
