CARROLLTON, Ga. - Taylor Boisclair pitched the first nine-inning complete game of the 2019 season on Friday evening, powering the West Georgia Wolves to an 8-2 victory over the Union Bulldogs in Gulf South Conference action at Cole Field.
Boisclair worked nine innings, allowing two runs with one earned run on seven hits and nine strikeouts, including the final out of the game to move to 3-2 on the season. The Wolves have pitched just three complete games all season, with Boisclair joining Ryan Parker and Cason Greathouse in that category, but both of those complete games came in seven-inning games.
West Georgia head coach Skip Fite gave the ball to Taylor Boisclair to open the series with Bulldogs, and the junior battled with Union starter Maxwell for the first four innings. In that span, Boisclair allowed three hits but no runs in that span. For the Wolves, Logan Taylor led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, then scored two batters later on a single from Brian Dansereau to break up the scoreless game.
In the fifth inning, a two-out rally produced two more runs for the Wolves. Joseph Hill opened the rally with a two-out single, followed by another single from Cade Marlowe. Taylor singled to bring home Hill, then a Dan Oberst single gave the Wolves a 3-0 lead. In the sixth, Lane Griffith delivered a one-out double, then moved to third on a single from Tucker Breen. A sacrifice fly from Nick Poskey made it 4-0 West Georgia in the bottom of the sixth.
In the seventh, Oberst started another rally with a single followed by a single from Brian Dansereau to give the Wolves two runners on with one out in the inning. Brady Barnes then cleared the bases with a triple and the Wolves held a commanding 6-0 lead. Marlowe tripled home a run in the eighth, then scored on a walk later in the inning to round out the scoring on the day.
West Georgia and Union will be back in action on Cole Field on Saturday afternoon, with Game 1 of the doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. Senior Day 2019 will take place between games, as the University of West Georgia honors eight seniors on the occasion of their final regular season home game.
