Wolves Trounce Paine in Midweek Play

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia Wolves pounded out 25 runs on 23 hits on Wednesday afternoon at Cole Field en route to their sixth consecutive victory, winning 25-3 over Paine in non-conference play.

Senior Logan Taylor had a banner day for the Wolves against Paine, reaching base in each of his first four plate appearances, and he was 75 percent of the way to the cycle with a single, double, and a triple with six RBI.

But the Lions were the first to push runs across, as the first four batters of the game picked up hits against starter Tyler Garner. That led to three runs for Paine in the top of the first and an early 3-0 deficit for the Wolves.

That did not last long, as West Georgia plated six runs in the bottom of the first. Nick Poskey led off the inning for the Wolves with a double followed by a walk from Brian Dansereau. Cade Marlowe followed with single that scored Poskey and the Wolves were off and running. Dan Oberst delivered a single that scored two in the inning and the Wolves picked up RBI from Brody Wortham and Brady Barnes to take a 6-3 advantage.

The Wolves never looked back from there, scoring at least two runs in every inning through the sixth inning. Taylor tripled in the fifth, doubled in the third and singles in the second, scoring two runs with each hit. Poskey homered in the sixth, his sixth dinger of the season. Joseph Hill blasted his second homer of the season in the seventh to give the Wolves a 24-3 lead.

Marlowe was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI, and Poskey was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Hill was 5-for-6 on the day with three runs scored and two RBI. Brady Barnes, Dan Oberst, and Dylan Johnson each pitched in a pair of hits and two RBI on the day. Brian Dansereau was tied with Marlowe for the team lead in runs scored, crossing four times in the game.

With the victory, the Wolves move to 17-17 and have scored at least seven runs in each of the six games during the current winning streak. West Georgia will be back in action at 2 p.m. tomorrow, taking on the Miles College Golden Bears in Birmingham, Ala.
