Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga. – Sunday was not kind to the UWG Wolves softball team as West Georgia lost games two and three of their weekend series against No. 2 Valdosta State on the road.
Finishing up yesterday's suspended game after another delay early this afternoon, the Wolves fell 5-0 to give VSU the series win. In the finale the Wolves fell 9-0 in five innings, dropping all three games to a red-hot Valdosta State team that has now won 18 straight contests.
Game two was suspended due to weather yesterday with VSU leading 2-0 after two, and after the resumption of play was delayed this afternoon, the Wolves and Blazers finally got on the diamond at 3:30 p.m.
Leading 2-0, the Blazers added runs in the third fourth and sixth and held UWG to five total hits in the contest.
In the series finale, West Georgia fell behind early after a seven-run second from the Blazers as VSU capitalized on five hits and two West Georgia errors.
Valdosta State slugged solo home runs in the third and fourth, to extend the lead to nine and end the game after five innings. For the series, the second-ranked Blazers slugged 11 home runs giving them a Division II leading 76 home runs on the season as a team.
The sweep drops the Wolves to 20-11 overall and 16-8 in Gulf South Conference play while VSU improves to 29-3 and 22-2 in league play.
West Georgia returns home for five straight games beginning with a non-conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday.
