CARROLLTON, Ga. – After a seven-day break between games, the University of West Georgia women's basketball team returns home Saturday at 2 p.m. for a Gulf South Conference matchup with Montevallo.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolves dropped their second straight game on Saturday, falling 71-66 to Mississippi College on the road. The Wolves got 24 points from
Zuriyah Davis, and 10 each from
Katelyn Dunning and
Sydne Tolbert.
West Georgia (10-6, 6-6 GSC) shot 43.4 percent from the field in the loss, but was 16-of-25 from the free throw line and turned it over 17 times.
SCOUTING MONTEVALLO
It's the first repeat opponent of the season for the Wolves as they begin their second cycle through the GSC schedule. UWG defeated Montevallo (10-6, 8-5 GSC) on the road back in December which was the first win in UWG's recent six consecutive victories.
The Falcons have gone 3-3 since that meeting, most recently earning their 10
th win of the season over West Alabama on Wednesday night.
The trio of Cali Smallwood, Marisa Snodgrass, and Isabel Grimes lead the Falcons as each average double-figure points per game. Smallwood is atop the individual stats at 11.3 points per game.
Smallwood's 6.2 rebounds per game leads the Falcons and that's followed up by Grimes at 4.4 per game.
SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA
The Wolves offense goes through Davis, who leads the GSC in scoring at 19.5 points per game which ranks 13
th in Division II. The junior is averaging 3.38 three-pointers per game which is fourth-best in the nation.
Multiple players have the ability to light up the stat sheet, however, as five other Wolves have a game with at least 15 points this season.
K'Nari Holliday is second on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game while
Mykah Anderson's 8.9 per game ranks third on the team.
On the glass, it's
Jada Powell leading the way with 8.3 per game while Holliday grabs 7.5 per contest.
Both of UWG's point guards, Dunning and Tolbert, average over 3.0 assists per game with Dunning's 3.4 per game ranking seventh in the league. Tolbert averages 3.3 per game with Dunning playing the majority of the point guard minutes between the two.
SERIES HISTORY
The Wolves and Falcons have met 50 times previously with UWG's December victory improving the Wolves to 28-22 all-time against UM. As the season series shifts to Carrollton, UWG is 16-9 all-time against the Falcons at home.
