ATLANTA,Ga. - It was a second place finish for the UWG women's track and field team as the Wolves posted 105.5 points in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Emory Spring Break Classic.
Saturday was highlighted by an individual win by in the pole vault and it went along with podium finishes in the triple jump, discus, and the 4x100m relay team.
JUMPS AND VAULT
An All-Region performer in indoor pole vault, Carleigh Bynum began her outdoor season with a win, clearing 3.60m in the pole vault. UWG also had Emily Jones in the pole vault and she finished fourth with a height of 3.30m while Elizabeth Osborne finished 12th.
Haley Trammell took second in the triple jump, hitting 11.40m in her first attempt. Amaya Hammell also competed in the triple jump and placed 14th with a jump of 9.87m.
THROWS
Dru Green took second in the discus, throwing a school record 41.40m with Melita Marie Roachford also scoring with a seventh place throw of 38.07m.
Jaycee Woods had a top-10 finish in the javelin, throwing 32.99m and finishing ninth. Other competitors in the javelin included a 14th-place finish from Haley Trammell and a 21st-place finish from Brooklyn Kierbow.
RELAYS
The relay team of Taylor Hampton, Campbell Brown, Dasani Minter, and Kira Montefusco finished second in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.68.Â
The last event of the day was the 4x400m relay, and UWG took fourth as the relay team of Jaeva Ridley, Chloe Leblanc, Shemiya Perry, and Oliva Fulford ran the race in a time of 4:03.01.
SPRINTS
A 12.09 time in the 100m dash was good enough for a fifth place finish in Kira Montefusco's outdoor debut in the exciting 100m dash.
In the 400m, Jaeva Ridley had the best finish, taking eighth place with a time of 59.56. Shamiya Perry finished 16th with a time of 1:01.49.
HURDLES
Olivia Fulford was the only Wolf to qualify for the finals in the 100m hurdles, just edging out Alexis Doll. Fulford would then post a time of 16.08 in the finals to notch a seventh place finish.
Chioma Uwaomah, Valeyna Renteria and Elizabeth Osborne also ran in the prelims of the 100m hurdles.
DISTANCE
Kathrin Maurer ran the 10,000m race for the Wolves, placing fourth with a time of 43:04.75. In the 1500m, Joycelyn Tifrea took 10th place with a time of 5:18.93. Linda Vasquez placed 31st in the 800m run to lead the Wolves in that event.
West Georgia is back in action next week at the Kennesaw State meet on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23.
