MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Competing in their final Gulf South Conference Championship in program history, the UWG women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of the GSC Outdoor Championship at the University of Montevallo with a second-place finish.
The UWG women finished behind only the six-time champion Lee University in the team standings, scoring 133 points. It was the Wolves' best finish at the conference championships since 2016 and the second-most points scored in the conference championships in program history.
It was the final appearance in the GSC Outdoor Championship as UWG Athletics prepares to elevate to Division I and the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2024-25. In eight appearances in the GSC Championship, UWG won a conference title in 2016, then finished either third or fourth every year with the exception of a sixth place finish in 2021 before today's second place finish.
JUMPS
It was a good day for the Wolves in the Triple Jump. T'oni Birden, Haley Trammell, and Taylor Hampton placed first, second, and third respectively. Birden had a 12.18m jump, Trammell finished with a 11.64m jump, and Hampton had a 11.43m jump. Amaya Hammel finished with a 10.37m jump. Birden, who will likely continue her sophomore season at NCAA Outdoor Nationals, won gold in both the triple jump on Saturday and long jump on Friday.
In the Women's High Jump, Olivia Fulford placed fourth with a 1.55m jump. Alexis Doll had a 1.50m jump, and Amaya Hammel set a personal record with a 1.45m jump.
SPRINTS & HURDLES
Two Wolves competed in the Women's 100m with Kira Montefusco finished with her season best with a time of 12.01 to finish fifth, while Campbell Brown had a time of 12.24 to finish seventh.
In the 100m hurdles, Olivia Fulford finished with a time of 15.19. In the 400m, Shamiyah Perry had a time of 1:00.09.
In the 400m Hurdles, Chloe Leblanc placed second with a time of 1:03.79. Jaeva Ridley had a time of 1:06.41. Olivia Fulford was next with a time of 1:07.69. Valeyna Renteria-Silva finished with a time of 1:14.65, while Maniyah Thomas had a time of 1:14.90.
THROWS & VAULTS
In the Women's Shot Put, Kyla Ford finished with a 12.07m throw. Meltia Marie-Roachford was next with a 11.79m throw. Dru Green had a 11.13m throw, while Nicole Richards had a 11.09m throw.
In the Women's Javelin Throw, Jaycee Woods placed third with a 38.08m throw. Brooklyn Kierbow was next with a 30.08m throw.
In the Pole Vault, Carleigh Bynum had a clearance of 3.40m. Elizabeth Osborne had a clearance of 2.80m.
DISTANCE
In the Women's 4x100m, UWG placed first with a time of 47.12. The competitors were Taylor Hampton, Campbell Brown, Dasani Minter, and Kira Montefusco.
In the Women's 4x400m, UWG placed sixth with a time of 4:08.54, The competitors were Jaeva Ridley, Chloe Leblanc, Valeyna Renteria-Silva, and Shamiya Perry.
In the Women's 1500m, Kristal McQueen finished with a time of 5:01.02. Kathrin Maurer was next with a time of 5:12.31.
There were two Wolves that competed in the Women's 800m, Linda Vasquez finished with a time of 2:22.07, Jordan Jarnot had a time of 2:51.00.
West Georgia will be back next Saturday at the Lee Last Chance Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee.
